Question about Army reserve
Does anyone know the age limit to join? I speak with many men who say they support this war and would join, but "sadly" they are too old (oldest is about 34).

1. Age info

Off their web site

http://www.goarmy.com/JobCatList.do?fw=reservePsIndex

U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien
17-24 years old
Healthy and in good physical condition
In good moral standing
Some positions may have additional qualifications

But I believe if prior service the age requirement goes up. They may still be able to enter depending on their trade, like doctors, linguistic (sp?) and so on...hehe should encourage them to look into it if they are gung ho like that

is a Pharmacist, wonder if they are needed? He's one of those "well they are volunteers". sigh, they didn't volunteer to increase Halliburton's bottom line.

No prior service (shocking! lol) for any of them.

2. Welcome to DU!
I'm not sure about the age limit, but I'm just now feeling "safe" as to my husband's status. He is about to turn 70, but has skills that I've read might be of value to this misadministration's military forces. He finished his RA and reserve time long ago, but I'm still a bit nervous. Also nervous about my daughters, who are in their 30s. And my grandsons, who are still in grade school but growing up too fast for me. Under the Bushco "plan", they could all be pressed into service. Hell, even I could be required to go. After Bushie snatches away my social security and medicare, and my retirement fund is trashed thanks to him, the military might be my only option.

Oh, wait--I have a better idea:

BUSH MUST GO!!

Too bad your acquaintances who support the war are unable to do their duty. Tell them to stick around, though. So many wars, so few soldiers!

5. I know how you feel
My father just retired (he's 50) last year. Not sure if he is safe (he served 30 years), as whenever I ask he just says "aww don't worry about it". My idiot (I say that lovingly!) brother is trying to enlist, and I'm praying his hearing loss is too great (his recruiters tell him he will have a better time getting it waived this time around than when I tried joining. I also have a hearing loss). Not too worried about my husband as he got out over 7 years ago, but do worry about a draft. He was a Russian linguist (he also speaks Greek), and the silly dramatic part of me keeps wondering if the government will say "gee how hard will it be for this guy to learn a 4th?"

6. I understand your "silly dramatic side"
I've always tended toward that, and often think it's part of what they call "woman's intuition". I pay more attention to it these days, especially lately. Just this odd feeling that none of us is really safe from what this government might decide to do. I do hope your brother changes his mind about enlisting, and that your husband and your Dad do not find themselves in harm's way. I honestly believe the draft is inevitable if W pulls off this election. Let us all keep the faith and work hard to make sure that doesn't happen!

Take care!

10. Nope they have called up people older than this, for this war.
NY Times had an article about this a while back. And if he was a commissioned officer who retired, he is considered "comissioned" for life and subject to callup if they really really needed.

This is one of the reasons why I resigned my commission when I got out.

7. They have called back a 68 and 71 year old Docs
I don't think they give a damn about age they are willing to use fodder of any age. If you aren't eligible for the military where they can skew the regulations any which way they want they can rely on those that are unable to find jobs to enlist just to take care of there families.
