my video of Tuesday's 250 PROTEST Bush in Missouri
Edited on Thu Sep-09-04 07:34 AM by graphixtech
On September 7th, President Bush made a campaign visit to my town of Lee's Summit, Missouri. I decided to drop by to see if there were any Americans who would be protesting.

The people shown in this video reflect what a growing number of Americans feel about this difficult time in our history.
Here is a short report:
At 7:45 am I arrived at the Lee's Summit Bush protest. I was very disappointed to see only six lone protesters. Then out of the horizon, a steady stream of citizens walked up, each waving a pink slip. The citizens represented the diverse concerns of Democrats from labor unions, students, anti-war, women's issues, 911Truth, and
Libertarians.

The protesters gathered at the side of the street, directly across from the State
Police headquarters and the LSHS Stadium where Bush was speaking.
The country music which is streaming from the background emits from the Stadium. The police were polite; no big conflicts happened and there were no arrests.

A protester was told that the semi trailers and huge white busses (shown at the end) were parked in their front locations to "shield" the Republicans
from the view of the protesters.

1. Well done, Missouri!
and Thank you graphixtech - for being there and for the video. Nice job.

What a chickenshit maneuver to line the buses up in front of the protesters so the *chickenshit in chief can escape the area shielded from voices of dissent.

Come November, let's hope *he hears us LOUD and CLEAR.

9. "Chicken George - tear down this wall!"
This is funny on the video. The speaker, Gene, is a writer
who lives in a nearby town.

Someone reported that the people in the stadium
across the street could hear him (with the megaphone).

3. Here's an interesting article from the Kansas City Star

Board will hear from Bush rally objectors

By MARÁ ROSE WILLIAMS The Kansas City Star

Some Lee's Summit residents upset that Republicans were allowed to hold a Bush campaign rally at a public high school will take their objections up with the school board tonight.

The meeting was requested in a letter sent to the school district Wednesday.

President Bush and several other Republican politicians spoke at Lee's Summit High School on Tuesday morning. The by-ticket-only event was attended by 15,000 people; 2,000 were students and school staff. Only students with parental permission could opt out of attending. Nine chose not to go.

In the letter, residents complained that a partisan rally “should not have been held in a facility that was paid for and is maintained by taxpayers' dollars during student instruction time.”

6. mention of the protest here:
Bush plays to friendly Missourians
By Jon Sawyer
Post-Dispatch Washington Bureau Chief

He defends record
on economy, blasts Kerry

COLUMBIA, Mo. - President George W. Bush campaigned Tuesday from suburban Kansas City to Columbia, playing both political defense and offense before large and mostly friendly crowds.

Bush defended his economic record at an "Ask President Bush" event at the State Fair Coliseum in Sedalia, where preselected Missourians testified to how much they had been helped by Bush's tax cuts and education initiatives. >snip<

scroll scroll scroll. last paragraph:

The day had begun at Lee's Summit High School, south of Kansas City, on a football field filled with some 14,000 supporters who had obtained tickets from local Republican Party officials. About 100 protesters were cordoned off on the highway beyond, behind a wall of tractor trailers. One of their signs said "Pro-Life? Stop the Killing." Another: "Drop Bush not bombs."

7. They forced students to attend unless their parents said otherwise?
Sounds like freakin' indoctrination centers to me.

What a load of horseshit.

10. Thanks for posting this
From what I have heard, there are many people
upset by how things were handled.

I was told that the Republican billed this as having an educational Q&A session with the students, which did not happen. Bond, Blunt and others were also introduced there. Students with Kerry buttons were physically removed and given detentions . . .

11. The logistics of getting *george through one county
at 80 MPH:

President's trip through county no leisurely drive for local law officers
Wednesday, September 08, 2004
By Chris Post/Senior Staff Writer

During an average shift, about a third of Saline County's sheriff's deputies are on duty, but Tuesday afternoon was no ordinary day.

Tuesday was President George W. Bush's swing through western and central Missouri, including stops in Lee's Summit, Sedalia and Columbia. That trip took him on an 80-mile-per-hour tour of southern Saline County and helping ensure his safety were Saline County's men and women in brown.>snip<

With Bush's 27-vehicle motorcade scheduled to leave the Missouri State Fairground in Sedalia at 1:45 p.m., all units were to be at their posts at 12:30 p.m.>snip<

The first sign of the motorcade were sweep vehicles making passes along the route to ensure everything was safe for the president.

Then in a stream of flashing lights, the motorcade -- comprised of armored buses, SUVs and law enforcement vehicles -- rushed by. Circling overhead were Blackhawk helicopters and an MSHP helicopter escort. >full article:

5. local media? . . . more
Edited on Thu Sep-09-04 08:18 AM by graphixtech
The big story about the Bush visit in the KC Star reported "a smattering" of protesters.
(Looks like more than a smattering to me)

The television news coverage that I saw was pathetic. The coverage showed 99.9 percente of Bush worship at the rally, which makes it look like everyone in LS is a Republican.
There was ONE sign that had two hearts on it, about gay marraige, and that is what they mentioned last about the protest.

My original footage also shows an Independence policeman walking
into the crowd and videotaping the protesters. When he saw me videotaping hiim, he looked ashamed and put the camcorder down. I was told that the SS had requested this.

If you listen closely to the video, at one point you can hear the background Republican announcer ask 'is everyone for Bush?' (rousing applausing).
Smacks of coercion of our schoolchildren.

4. There were city dump trucks shielding him in Cedar Rapids, IA
Edited on Thu Sep-09-04 08:06 AM by 9119495
What a chicken-shit. THey also wrongfully arrested two teachers protesting. They were supposedly tresspassing on a permitted private engagement in a public park. Now it has been discovered no bill was ever presented to the campaign and that the party could not have been private based on a number of factors.

On edit:

Oh, yeah and they had to cancel the day for three schools near the security perimeter.

8. Garbage trucks - how appropriate.
That made me smile.

I remember one * appearance some time ago at an elementary school in FL where they blacked out the windows on school buses and lined the perimeter of the school with them.

loyalty oaths, pre-screening, hiding behind semis, buses and garbage trucks. Yep, everything is just peachy-keen in *bush's bubble world.
