Kitty: More support for Bush coke use
Edited on Thu Sep-09-04 10:28 AM by priller
Sharon Bush tried to back away yesterday from quotes Kitty Kelley attributes to her in her new slice-and-dice book on the Bush family - but she may have backed into a smoking gun.

..."I categorically deny that I ever told Kitty Kelley that George W. Bush used cocaine at Camp David - or that I ever saw him use cocaine at Camp David. The one time I met in person with Kitty Kelley, she mentioned drug use at Camp David. I responded by saying something along the lines of, 'Who would say such a thing?'"

...But Sharon has one small problem: There was a third party at the lunch, an unimpeachable source who agreed to speak with us on condition of anonymity, who says Kelley's quotes are accurate.

"We met at the Chelsea Bistro on April 1, 2003," says our insider. "It was a very long lunch. Sharon was talking about affairs in the Bush family ... very dysfunctional. She said they talk about family values, but they don't practice what they preach.

"Then Kitty raised the drug issue," our source continues. "Kitty, who can make a rock talk, said: 'I know about the drugs. I know that W did drugs at Camp David during his father's presidency.'

"Sharon agreed. She said, 'Absolutely. That's all true.'"

Good old gossip column. I guess we'll have to wait and see who this "unimpeachable source" is.

1. Didn't the Shrub himself admit to past drug use in his autobiography or
in some interview? I seem to remember seeing something about him saying he hadn't used drugs since 1973 or something, making it logical to assume that might be why he missed his flight physical in 1972...
Will look and see if I can find source.

4. Found just this in a quick search but there seems to be a lot more
"The gap in Bush's military records for 1972, and his lack of a full answer to the question about his drug use, generated stories during the 2000 campaign. Bush refused for months to say whether he had ever used illegal drugs. Then he changed his stance, according to the Boston Globe, saying he had not used illegal drugs "since 1974."

Sounds like an admission to me - backhanded, like most Repuke dirty tricks, but an admission all the same.

14. Sorry, I believe the quote included the words
'clean and sober since 1974'. Never admitted to drug use. Also lied about how long he had been sober. He was 40 when he stopped (cough) drinking. Do the math.

3. No wonder he agreed to do Rush Limbaugh show: kindred drug spirits
It's time the entire Republican party was exposed for the hypocrites and liars they are.

7. They have been, time and time again! It happens daily! Every time the
Naked Emperor opens his yap, a lie leaps out! (Except when he said that ..."our enemies never stop trying to think of ways to harm our nation and our people, and neither do we." He got that one right, unWittingly...)
They do it all the time but it flies over people's heads. There is no room for analysis or critical thinking when one's brain is swimming in talking points and distractions du jour.
If only more American people would wake up and pay attention and start educating themselves, they'd see that the Repukes are practically shooting themselves in the foot every other minute or two. They are just so arrogant and cocky they can pull it off, because people keep IGNORING it!!
GAAAAAAGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! It makes me crazy!
They're such FILTH....it's so OBVIOUS!
WTF???

5. Does it matter?
I mean, will it change anyone's opinion? I've heard people say and read in op-ed pieces the opinion that "that was in his wild youth" (I never considered pushing 40 youth but go figure). Yet these are the same people who persecuted Clinton for "not inhaling".

For most of these people, any and all allegations about his past seem to be trumped by the fact that he was "born again". Besides, they point out, he's doing such a good job! I mean, they're sheep. You could show them current photos of him smoking crack in the oval office and they'd refuse to believe it.

12. Perhaps I'm a pessimist
But I really don't think so. It's great for us but I think it's very likely that the majority of his supporters will say

1. It's "only" Kitty Kelley and she's not a reputable source.
2. That was a long time ago and he's been "born again" after all.
3. He's keeping us safe.

I hope it changes minds. But I doubt it.

8. This alleged behavior from the man who impugned Ann Richards.
Didn't they make an issue of her being a recovering alcoholic back in 1994? Bastards.

My guess is this "unimpeachable source" will never materialize, and without a warm body, the whole thing falls apart.

11. Just like the Swift Boat Vets who didn't serve with Kerry
were 'unimpeachable sources'?

How does the whole thing fall apart? I think it's just the beginning...

15. Clarification
Maybe it would be more appropriate to focus on the phrase “who agreed to speak with us on condition of anonymity”. Without a name, without a warm body, this becomes a rumor. Then, the other side says something like “an unimpeachable source who agreed to speak with us on condition of anonymity was at the table next to Sharon Bush and Kitty Kelly and claims that there was no third party at the table and the lunch lasted less than 3 minutes before Sharonn walked out", and you have the counter-rumor. I suppose only time will tell if an actual person shows up.

16. Actually, an editor also sat in on a later meeting with Sharon.
She is probably facing the loss of millions, and much more, by going against the Bush family. The column leaves out the statement from Doubleday in which a senior editor sat in later with Sharon Bush and Kitty, and vouches for Kitty's version.

I've been looking for one about the Doubleday senior editor being present since I read your post but can't find it.

Thank you in advance.

18. HA HA HA! So NOW real evidence is important?
Gotta love the irony: Kitty Kelley went to press with vastly stronger evidence that His Chimperial Majesty was a coked out little shit than His Chimperial Majesty took our nation to war with Iraq!

But all of a sudden the Republicans are paying hallowed worship to "facts."

Bullshit.

Hammer them.
