The Australian embassy in Jakarta was bombed today. Lots of casualties.
Tony Blair released a statement right away, condemning the attacks yadda yadda.

As for the White House? Australian blog Road to Surfdom has the official response:

The White House has now released a statement (also mentioned in comments by Peter). Actually, "statement" over-dignifies it. It's an offhand, standard response of the sort given to any sort of attack. The spokesman shows a complete lack of recognition of the significance of it for Australia and for the region and indeed, for their "war on terror". Here's how the exchange starts. You tell me how big a deal the White House thinks it is:
Q Jakarta bombing. Got anything on it?
MR. McCLELLAN: What about it, just looking for a comment?

He then gives the proforma response and that's that. An al Qaeda group have just committed another atrocity and the White House can barely raise a comment.
"What about it"? Amazing.

1. At the very least, Dub could have released a statement:
"Now, watch my next drive!":eyes:

I'm getting the feeling that ANY sort of pressure--i.e. the spectre of losing--makes them show their true colors: absolutely NO respect for anyone but themselves!:grr:

B-)

2. Well isn't that just compassionately conservative of them. Wow. I am
almost shocked at that. Almost. But really, it's just SOP for these thugs. Australia? So what? It's far away, they talk funny, place is full of odd things, not at all American, not our problem, hey.
They are totally shameless.

4. Bush is the current President, and Australia is part of
"The Coalition of the Willing". It is HIS responsibility to release an official statement.

5. Fascinating Insight into the
Bushco White House.

That is: They are so consumed by politics that they can't take care of business, like issuing a statement of sympathy and support to your allies......or in the least placing a phone call expressing sympathy and support to the Prime Minister.

They are in what us old, old, old computer types (IBM 360-40)used to call Phase Lock

7. that makes me angry
The first thing I thought of when I heard abut this bombing is this is their thanks for being bushco's allies (note I did not say "our" allies).

What a bunch of no-class creeps.

I am so sick of these people. I am counting the seconds until we get rid of them.
