WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE SERVICE TO ANYONE
Edited on Thu Sep-09-04 06:59 PM by vetwife
Yes in big bright letters in a bowling alley in Georgia.
My daugher came home from school and said the pep rallies are segegrated by choice, I guess. What with the hate and all !
Black on one side..White on the other.
Big black and white brawls over Dixie Outfitter shirts which is nothing but hate displayed on wearing apparell.

Any questions? See where we are going? Hatred..Pure hatred and the white kids are trying to turn my daughter into a bigot. Well, it just may look like more homeschooling for her.

1. ignorance, plain and simple
There is a LOT more tolerance and a LOT less ignorance in the City of Atlanta, compared to the rest of Georgia. It's almost as if the I-285 highway is an enlightenment barrier.

9. Tacky Graphic. But I've no fault to find with Gen. Lee or Traveler
Lee was an honorable, good man by all counts.

He hated slavery.

He just felt more loyalty to his state than the Union.

I think he fought for the wrong cause but I still admire him.

They buried the dead from the Civil War in his Yard.

Do you know this?

Arlington Cemetary was started on Lee's property so that he would have to see the graves every day.

Really. I mean damn.

Can you imagine burying all the damage of this Iraq fiasco at Crawford?

Damn.

Can you imagine? You don't lose and proudly display your failure.
This is just ignorance. We are going back further than 35 years. We are going back to the Civil war.

General Lee would probably have a real problem with the way his image is used.

I'm Savannah area. About 59% Af./Am.

Most folk get along just fine.

Course there is a select group of gated community/historic society white folk who imagine themselves better than any of us (And who we let think they run things.)

I read about 1/2 of the page. After reading enough to blow my mind, I scanned down the page. I found posts from Fl, MO, TX, and NC.

Do they all want to secede from the US? The original writer was actually right with his advice, but are they really trying to restart the civil war?

Geesh. I live about 45 north of Atlanta. I've certainly seen racism, and whatever you call it when southerners hate yankees. but I never saw of heard anything as radical as that link you listed.

I really thought aster 60 years, I couldn't be surprised by anything, but that sure did it!

It seems they are doing nothing to stop the ignorance by allowing segregation in the schools. Pretty soon they'll go back to "White Only" drinking fountains and put the "coloreds" in the back of the bus.

Do they even bother teaching the civil rights movement in the south?

ITs getting real old and they are getting bolder and some people like me can't afford to move with disabled folks in the house and I stay on the warpath. Everyone here thinks I have a NY attitude... For those not in Georgia, they are a sporting goods store which sells their brand of T-shirts, that have logos which quite often look like they came right out of the John Birch Society or Liberty University. Mean-spirited right wing crap.

28. Um, careful about jumping to conclusions too quickly
I frequent low-brow establishments in the south pretty often. I'm old enough to remember when those signs were meant to warn off anyone other than the lilly-white. From my experience in the last twenty years or so, the establishments I frequent are directing those signs to skin-heads, mean drunks, trouble-makers, etc. The bars and other such places I've been too don't look twice at whether the patrons are black. They are trying to warn off trouble-makers. I'm talking rural Louisiana and Mississippi here. I'm old enough to remember the gasoline station signs with "colored" rest rooms.

Just a thought.

31. I've seen that sign often enough, but it wasn't referring to
race. It was invariably referring to undesirables (hippies in the '60's, people not properly dressed, no shoes, no shirt). I was refused service once at a Pitt Grill type place in south Louisiana (I was young, white, clean, middle class college girl type with a hippie flavor to me....but I was wearing short short jean cutoffs and a midriff top with no bra. So, no service for me from the fat white broads behind the counter.)

It's against federal law to refuse service to anyone based on several things, and race is one of them. But they can refuse service for other reasons.

I haven't seen one of those signs lately, but it's been awhile since I've been out of a big city. In small cities in the deep south (where I'm from), it is not unusual for people to congregate according to race. It just comes naturally. (I mean...you DO feel a certain kinship toward your own race that you don't feel with someone from another race, don't you?) It's not intended to be racist, on either side, and it's not that the two groups never participate together. Maybe it's different now. But in my day, we just naturally "hung" within our various races. And contrary to what northerners think of the deep south....I recall hearing racist statements very rarely. I heard some that I found shocking and wrong. But they were rare.

37. Texas Sissy..No I don't
My husband is Native American. What race would I feel a kinship towards? The Native Americans or the Caucasians. We are all Americans and there are white people I don't like and there are black people I don't like but it has nothing to do with the color of their skin and I feel kinship with anyone who is not a bigot. I like some Asian Americans and dislike others. Same thing for any color of skin but I don't feel comfortable with one race more than another, especially bowling ! I hope I didn't sound too strong, but when thse young tenneagers are pushing the Rebel flag clothes on my daughter and she is bending to peer pressure, I gotta take a stand. She doesn't understand why I don't shop Walmart either. We teach them now. She knows this is wrong but the fuel to the racism has been ignited and she will go to the white side...she is not brave enough, its confusing enough to be different because you are a diabetic, I can't tolerate this racism thing and if I have to go to that pep rally and sit on the black side. I will.

Edited on Thu Sep-09-04 09:17 PM by vetwife
What does that sign mean? He said, "Exactly what it says". We got too many of those people taking up lanes.
I can't afford to turn this into a crack den. Plain enough?
Now those people could be Brown, Black, asian, but the guy was white and had a chew of tobacco in his jawl. Didn't sound like a real lover of any race but lily white to me. The Bowling alley is only 2 years old and this guy wasted no time duringthis administration to put up his little sign. 20 something lanes, I saw all white except for one black couple bowling. There were plenty of white folks bowling. I am naot looking for boogers. I just see whats happening down here. Its only been a month since I had a teacher give my daughter and the rest of the class aRight winged questionnaire to fill out. What church did we attend. How often did she go to chruch..what kind? How often did she have sex..How much time did she spend with her parents..What chores did she do. I took that issue up with the principal.
