Did another AM 1190 boost their signal recently? (regarding Air America)
I live in the Hartford, CT area and try to listen to Air America out of NYC as often as possible on AM 1190 WLIB. I don't get a strong signal, but I normally heard them pretty clearly on the highway until this week. I would occasionally get a religious station out of Ohio when I got off the highway, but only for a few seconds.

Now, this week, all over the highway I've been getting Bloomberg radio or some afternoon program called Investor's Edge on 1190 (assume it's from Bloomberg, too, but I'm not sure...)

Did another 1190 recently switch formats & boost their signal? Is there some unusual solar flare activity? Something unusual in the weather/air? Or, something else?

1. AM signals are weird
You will from time-to-time get signal skip. You may even pull in a station from hundreds or thousands of miles away. Being up in Hartford, this makes sense when listening to a NY signal.

There is a strong signalled station sharing the same frequency in Ft. Wayne, IN, I believe. I think it may be religious, but I'd have to look it up.

2. I'm in Jersey and have had the same problem
Bloomberg sometimes interferes with my AA listening. But usually a little careful tuning will solve the problem.

I think the unusual weather this week has caused problems with radio and cellphone reception. I've heard numerous people complaining about the latter.

Daytime pattern (50,000 Watts):

And nighttime pattern (9800 Watts):

Hmmmm...No WONDER I can't hear them at night. They "throw" a MAJOR null my direction....

Now, here's WLIB's daytime 10,000 Watt pattern:

And the night-time 30,000W pattern:

Looks like you can hear it a LONG ways out to sea!

There is a WBDY in Bluefield, VA, 10,000W Daytime ONLY:

And WAFS in Atlanta, GA, which is a Daytimer with "critical hours" (2300W) limitations. "Critcal Hours" (we used to call it pre-sunrise and post-sunset authorization)
are the 2 hours before sunrise and 2 hours after sunset.:

And their 10,000W daytime pattern:

How's THAT for "Too Much Information, Man"?
