We are trying to show F9/11 for free at Ole Miss
Edited on Fri Sep-10-04 11:59 AM by Melodybe
Since I don't want to infringe on copyright laws and, so forth, I am writing to Michael Moore asking his permission to show F 9/11 on Campus. Ole Miss is the 7th most conservative college in the country, plus Oxford, MS at one point was so racist we got songs written about us, by Dylan none the less. The college dems here thought that it was a great idea, we are also trying to show a few free screenings of Outfoxed.

It will be open to the public and free but we need Moore's consent. I am not the most eloquent writer and I am slightly dyslexic, I want my e-mail to be grammatically correct, if you have any suggestions they are appreciated.

We are also inviting Michael to see on of the screenings because the press would be awesome.

Here is my lame e-mail, help me make it sound better.

Hello, I don't know if you (Michael Moore) will read this but I just wanted to say thank you for making this movie. I work with the University of MS's college Democrats and we thought that since Ole Miss is the 7th most conservative campus in the country showing this movie for free was a great idea. Ole Miss and Oxford, MS both have a long history of intolerance and conservative ties, we thought that showing F 9/11 could get some fascinating press in our local media.

We are not sure of the legalities and figured getting in touch with you and your organization was the best way to go. We would also like to invite you to one of the screenings, if we can get your permission, of course.

MS is an odd place, and I have talked to quite a few former republicans that can not vote for Bush b/c of your movie. People here are mad that Haley Barbour (our Governor) is cutting 65,000 people off of their medicare, many are upset with Bush's ties to the price of gasoline and MS has sent many troops to Iraq. MS may not go blue but we are a paper ballot state and many are feed up with Bush.

I pre-ordered F9/11 the day it went up on Amazon, once we get it we would like to show a few public screenings from then until election day, we can't do this without your permission. Please, entertain the notion of visiting us here in MS and please, please, please give us permission to show it on our campus.

We love you,

Me

1. I thought you could show the movie...as long as you don't charge
admission.

Way to go, Mel! Wish I could attend. :-)

5. Nope. You can't do that. You still need to get permission even
if you're not charging.

2. Hey, Melody! Greetings from Wiggins, MS
Great letter...only one tiny correction: It's Medicaid, not Medicare, that Gov. ("Mushmouth") Barbour is cutting for our state's neediest citizens. I hope you get permission to show "Fahrenheit 911" and that attendance is good at Ole Miss. Who knows...maybe you'll change a mind or two! Keep fighting the good fight.

3. I can't imagine that he'd object......
but make sure you prepare for the possibility of "Bush's Brownshirts" attempting a disruption

I think it's the Bookings Dep't you need, but they'll tell you. (They might give you a separte number for Fellowship of the Whatever, which is really doing the distribution, or they might give you the number for Alliance Atlantis, or whomever it is that co-distributed it.)

Tell them you want to show the movie at your school. They'll give you a rate and send you a print.
