I am very pessimistic today.
It should seem pretty obvious to all that the media has declared that the villiage idiot will get another four years. No matter what is uncovered about him and his administration, it gets a positive spin, or is ignored by the broadcast media.

The AWOL story/memos has been thouroughly debunked as a forgery by the "liberal" media today. Of course they aren't forgeries, but all America will remember a week or two from now is that they were. (And Kerry was behind it....)

Kerry is getting ferociously Gored, and the Dems seem incapable of refuting it. Our parties "leadership" is weak and ineffective.

I am making plans to move abroad. I''l vote and then vote with my feet.

I'm really down about all of this shit....

1. Don't be, it is in your darkest hour, if you hold on through the storm,
that on the other side there is a rainbow of hope! EVERY storm eventually ends. Hang in there, keep your chin up, we'll prevail. Just dig your heels in deeper and stand tall and proud! Kerry is kicking Bush's ass right now out in the streets.

It's just not possible that this moron could get another term. We're americans goddamit, and we don't put up with this shit.

3. sorry to hear it
but remember, all of the Kerry boosters from way back have always insisted that he is a hell of a slugging campaigner, especially in the late stages of a campaign.

I think we can expect a lot of fight from our team in the next 8 weeks.

Let me know where you are thinking about settling down. My job is pretty specialized . . . I'm not sure where, besides the US, I could do it. But I'm definitely into ideas about that.

6. I am sorry you are feeling down too
This whole last 5 years or so (actually, since the "impeachment"), have been a bad emotional rollercoaster. I don't know what to say to help you feel better, but you are not alone! Many of your fellow citizens of the world and of your country feel the way you do.

4. Hi. Sorry you're feeling down.
Maybe it's time to take a break from television and its echo chamber here on DU. Things really aren't all that bleak.

Kerry is trending upward in battleground states and electoral college projections.

There is a gathering crescendo of Democratic voices that is growing louder, more forceful, and more powerful as we approach the date. We are rising and reverberating. Pro-liberty, pro-minority, pro-women, pro-children, pro-labor, pro-environment, anti-war, anti-deficit, pro-accountability, pro-responsibility, pro-gressive, anti-poverty, anti-hunger, anti-repression, pro-truth individuals and groups have their campaigns built. You will hear more of their voices as the coming weeks unfold, and I predict that their voices together will weave into some beautiful music.

Rise and reverberate, Democrats!

7. Maybe this will help
Kerry is doing well in a bunch of state polls today. I'm not exactly sure why (since the media assumes he's going to lose), but he is. I hope they aren't outliers.

8. media owned lock stock & barrel by repukes
now more than ever so it is so damned hard to get the message out. The people who pretend they are journalists like Matthews, Scarborough, etc., are entertainers, shills, paid by the GOP. They run swifties for 2-3 weeks straight, but not the awol story. No one can figure out where Bush was for a year (FACT!!!!) but none of the so-called "journalists" on cable want to risk this story because they might lose their high-pay job.

An agenda of permanent war, tax cuts to the rich, enormous deficits, further loss of good jobs, etc., will lead to bankruptcy and ruin. Yeah I can understand why you're down.

10. Simple answer. Don't watch cable news!
The entire point of media firestorms like this is to demotivate us. Do not succumb, please. The next two months will be a vicious fight, and one that we all need to help with. Every single one of us, including you.

Don't you dare abandon us.

:-)

11. If Kerry Loses We Win, If Kerry Wins We Win
In other words, the GOP is going down. The upcoming election is just one battle, and will be either a “Their Finest Hour” or “End of the Beginning” moment. Either way, the GOP corporatacracy will fail.

Even if Boosh does pull out this election, the country is still going to be 50/50. If he does pull it out, it is because they were able to perpetuate the big lie of GOP economic/foreign policy for a little longer. Most of the people I know who support the GOP do so because of their supposed superiority in economic policy and national defense. With the economic and military disasters that are going to occur within the first couple of years into the next term, the Potemkin Village built by the GOP will collapse, and so will the GOP majority in politics. I do not think Boosh will even last the full second term (ala Nixon).

The GOP has successfully delayed the day of reckoning until after the election by diverting any concerns people may have to 9/11 and the ‘war on terra’. Also, although many on this board see the coming storm, a critical mass of sheeple buy into the ‘turning the corner’ mantra. Also, a vast majority of the country has no investment (relatives) in the branches of the military currently in harms way.

Regarding the draft, and expanding the ‘war on terra’, I think they are going to try. Problem is, we are going to run out of money before they can go very far. I feel we are going to have a fall similar to the (former) Soviet Union. As for our democracy, I still have hope. If a partially democratic Russia could emerge from the ruins of the Soviet Union, I feel that our democracy, after a thorough house cleaning, will emerge stronger than before.

Let’s face it, considering the compliant (and possibly complicit) media and unprecedented use (for a democracy) of physiological warfare, the fact that they can only manage to get 50% of the 50% who vote underscores their weak position.

Sure, things could go terribly wrong, and we could end up with a corpo-facist state. However, I think the probability of this disaster happening is low, like getting taken out by a tidal wave or an asteroid a couple of weeks after Kerry is elected.

We are in for some hard times, primarily due to GOP policies, irregardless of Kerry being elected. So, the question becomes, how to ride out the next 10 years? For myself, I plan to live in a ‘low orbital state’. That is, living simply and saving everything I can. A move to a hard ‘blue’ area is a possibility to make things more bearable. Also, these are the areas the recovery will emerge from.
