Rove is a f**king evil genius
Think about it.

This guy doesn't give a shit if these documents are authentic or forged. All he cares about is that people are arguing about it.

Because as long as people are arguing about it, they aren't talking about the issues. And Bush is weak as a kitten on the issues, so this all works in his favor.

2. Rove isn't a "Genius" of any kind. He has a corrupt media on his side!
Anyone could do what this guy is doing with a media like ours. A media ready to publish any lie he thinks up. Those "forgeries" could have been a deliberate plant from the beginning.

3. Uh, I don't know
This is bad news for the Bushies, I think. People are now arguing whether he fulfilled his TANG duties, which I think is a topic Rove et al would like them to avoid.

The "controversy" about the authenticity of the documents seems actually to be the work of the corporatists in the media, using Drudge (and therefore Freeperville) as a source.

I don't think Rove had anything to do with it. The media can pull for Dear Leader, too.

4. He's no genius
Edited on Fri Sep-10-04 02:24 PM by Blecht
These fuckers just have the backing of the corporate media. All the twisted little "Rovian" ideas in the world wouldn't matter if we had a truly free press.

This isn't genius -- it's money. That's all. The platforms for public discourse belong to these assholes, and they use them how they see fit.

14. No, he's absolutely is a genius.
He's a master of short-term politics. He only needs for something to be talked about for a couple of weeks, and then he moves on to the next issue. A month ago it was Kerry's actions in Vietnam, now it's his testimony against the war after he got home. When Rove starts a story about an opponent, he doesn't care if people think it's true or not, as long as they're thinking about it. When the news is full of people talking about Kerry's Vietnam record, that leaves less space for people to talk about Bush's record. And when an issue has lost its legs, he'll make up something else, or take something that actually happened and twist the facts surrounding it to hurt his opponent.

He's the perfect politician, because he never has to worry about getting himself elected. If Karl Rove's hands are absolutely filthy it doesn't matter, as long as George Bush's hands are clean.

5. Anyone Looks Like a Genius
If all the people on the podium act like he is.

I would love to see the administration handle the same kind of scrutiny they get in Europe.

8. His strategy has been
To have people looking at and talking about anything other than George W. Bush's record as President.

And up to now, it's worked remarkably well.

7. Exactly
Now Bush's past is being reported more in the media, but at what cost? Here we are 2 months before the election and we are STILL fucking talking about Nam.

There are SO many other CURRENT issues to be used against bush, and he is essentially getting a free pass on all of them.

I've seen polls with 80+% of people saying they will NOT base their vote on this issue, yet it continues to be a primary focus.

9. Like many pathological liars
both Bush and Rove are clever, devious, and amoral. But they have painted themselves into several corners that will be difficult to get out of.

They wanted these docs to go away, not be more tightly focused. Now a lot of difficult questions will be asked about their provenance, but the whole process damages Bush, like the whole process of the swiftboat liars damaged Kerry for a while. Sadly for Rove, next up at the plate, Kitty Kelly.

12. He isn't a genius, he is a moron
Trust me, any idiot could do what he is doing for Bush. All you need is a media that works tirelessly to protect you and the arrogance to blatently lie with the confidence that you won't be caught.

He will either end in crash, or die a lonely, hated, demonized, little man. Just like Atwater.

16. Follow the money, Sandpiper.
Who's really going to benefit most from this? The news shows, of course. This will raise their rating numbers, which will enable them to raise their ad revenue. They couldn't give a shit if what they're saying is true, as long as they can get somebody who isn't drooling down his or her shirt to go on camera and say it.

They wanted a mudslinging campaign for the same reason -- ratings, ad revenue.

You don't have to be an evil genius to take advantage of greed -- all you have to be is smart about greedy people. Rove, apparently, is.
