Warning: this is his plan...then he can declare Martial law IMO
Edited on Fri Sep-10-04 03:47 PM by vetwife
Let the ban die. Every terrorists, nut and felon can get an assault rifle. He has already divided the country. The left could arm themselves and we know the right has these guns. Things get heated and America starts looking like downtown Chicago in the 30's and Bush can declare martial law. Sounds like a plan to me. Why else would you not meet Sara Brady? Law enforcement officers? Why else would you not give a statement to the press? There is a reason there. Thats this gal's opinion anyway. By the way, he's got Zell on the trail stirring the hate mongers. Sound like Ct? Think again and look at the board wanting to arm themselves.

2. Unfortunately, vetwife, I think you're not far off...
I think of this sometimes as I cannot possibly imagine how they would let something as trivial as a National Election to let power slip away from them.

It is a very plausible plan when you realize who you're talking about and what they are ready to do to stay in power. In the meantime, I think arguing about Smirk and Kerry's records in the days of Vietnam is a waste of time and energy.

One volunteered for combat, the other did not show up. That's all I need to know. Those who don't care won't care even if they heard all the possible horrors in the world that Smirky could have done.

4. I hope I am wrong...But I think its right on target !

Theleft has been pushed and pushed and arrogantely so. Remember the pic of the girl getting her hair pulled. Remember the guy jack slapping the fundie. Now put Assault rifles in their hands instead of the third finger when you see a peace vigil if you are a redneck, or attack a vet in a parade who can easily pull out that assault weapon. Now picture the G-8...NY Republican convention and guess who are deemed terrorists? With them or against them? Monday at twilight is kind of like Gunfight at the OK Corral.

I do not put anything and I mean anything against this crime family. Rove and the bunch are looking for anything to call off elections.
I even heard Rummy say today that, "Well we want to have elections too, but we never know". HE was talking about Iraq..or was he?

5. please calm down
the "ban" (I guess you mean the so-called "assault weapons ban") did NOT ban the amount of firepower out there.

It merely prohibited the installation of things like bayonet attachment points (not even the bayonet itself) on otherwise legal firearms.

The firearms that shoot one round per pull of the trigger were still legal during the ban, and will be even with a renewed ban.

I am not upset. I have been telling people to calm down all day. I do think it is strange that he is so smug and even Reagan, Daddy Bush all the way back to Ford was behind the ban. Of course you cannot outgun the military but why has this screw up been so arrogant and so sure he is going to be president. He can't honestly win it.

He is for concealed weapons as well. I was in a shop the other day and they were ordering Assault rifles. What are you gonna hunt with an assault or even semi automatic? Not Bambi. Of course unless you want to stick a bayonet up Bambi's butt after he has been shot with 37 rounds. You can also go for another banana clip and really mess the little dude up beyond recognition and then what you gonna have for supper?

I think we got the election hands down. But I don't put anything past this bunch. I understand their end times scenereo..I am a preachers kid and that got it all Archie Bunker Style but they don't want to sit in the Hague. They are war criminals and I truly believe they will do anything !

11. Gun control is a farce.
Ultra Right Wing groups gather all the firepower they want. This issue is a joke. What about the ammunition for these weapons?
So far this issue only manages to gain voters for the Neo Fascists.
It isn't weapons that kill people, it's people. In Rawanda around 500K people were slaughtered with machetes. When people want to kill they find a way to do so.

13. Have to agree with you.

I put the L in Liberal, but I have always loved guns and I collect them. The criminal justice system and the class war are what cause people to use them for the wrong things.

14. I don't have the answer but I do know one thing..violence begats
violence and never solved anything. How many people who have arsenals actually need them? I am the wife of a vet who had one time had an arsenal of weapons and it took 7 years to rid this house of them. I think people who feel the need for weapons and that includes machetes have a fear problem and also something missing deep inside. I believe that weapons are tools of destruction whether it be a knife or a gun. One thing for sure a person who is shot is more likely to die or never be right as opposed to a person who has been knifed. A person may overdose on pills but a gunshot wound to the head is a sure way to go. I think there is way too much depression, alcohol and drugs and fear and anger in this society to have guns so easily available.

15. Second Amendments "Rights"!
OK! I started a plea for DU members to sign on to the petition from MoveOn to extend the “Assault Weapons” ban legislation on this DU Link:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=106x10423

I didn’t continue because of #4 post on my thread: http://www.drudgereport.com/dncg.htm

There are many things which populate my mind now, but, I would like to open this thread to a discussion of what constitutes weaponry as it might be understood by our founding fathers as relates to the Second Amendment:

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

What are the “arms” that would be considered “the right of the American people” - in a world that our founding fathers could never have imagined the possible technological advances which would occur. What are the lines which delineate the “military armaments” as compared to “keeping and bearing” arms. Self propelled rocket launchers? Tanks? What?
