When it comes to the nation's finances, the Republicans have failed us. The unrelenting focus on tax-cuts for the wealthiest Americans - at a time of war - has driven this nation into a staggering debt.
When it comes to the nation's economy, the Republicans have failed us. Under Bush's watch, America has lost 2.7 million manufacturing jobs, a record 45 million Americans have no health insurance and more than one in six American children live in poverty.
When it comes to the management of our armed forces, the Republicans have failed us worst of all. We have lost a thousand men and women in Iraq, almost 7,000 are
wounded, and there is no plan to bring them home. According to Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, we do not even know we are not creating more terrorists than we are killing.
Add to that the shameful environmental record, the erosion of civil liberties, and cuts of educational and even veterans' programs and you have a very strong incentive to fight for the defeat of President Bush in the November elections.
However, it is critical that we do not stop at the White House. To really change this country, we must also win a Democratic majority in the Congress.
