38. Bush said an attack on our nation will not stand. Without evidence

he has already decided that another nation did this. Maybe so, maybe a domestic terrorist group. He's trying to set up an enemy.
Comentator says only anti-aircraft guns would have saved it. Not missile defense.

one probably a 737, the other a 757 hijacked, one a American Airlines? from Boston to Calif., the other? One plane for each tower. Must have been hundreds of people in those 2 planes. Hundreds in the buildings. Oh god!

46. Yes! Amazingly prescient and clearminded...
In these threads, the folks here on DU hit just about every point on the head- Khephra in particular. Will - thanks for this, the photos are heartbreaking. I have about dozen or so 9-hour videotapes of continuous news coverage during and after the event that I keep in my video library. I've been avoiding them for years, since they were made, as I lost friends on the ground and in the towers both going in and trying to get out. I think it's time to take another look this evening, and remember.

It just took me way, way back.

I just read through a lot of those threads. I think I was in shock.

DU's dear Newyawker99 had a thread: "OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!! --- They have finally succeeded in accomplishing their mission from 10 years ago!!!!!! They have destroyed this beautiful city and it will never be the same again. Please everyone, say a prayer or send your thoughts to all of those who have died or were injured. I am so upset I can scarcely type this and I am afraid that they may come back again and finish us off. Thanks for listening. I will try to come back later." http://www.democraticunderground.com/cgi-bin/duforum/duboard.cgi?az=show_thread&om=4288&forum=DCForumID35&archive=yes

And William Pitt said it for me then (and now) with this thread on September 11th: "I would have been lost today without the DemocraticUnderground. --- Thank you Skinner. Thank you EarlG. Thank you moderators. Thank you friends. Stout hearts." http://www.democraticunderground.com/cgi-bin/duforum/duboard.cgi?az=show_thread&om=4311&forum=DCForumID35&archive=yes

27. Sept 10th...Before the Nightmare started...
I was working a party at a restaurant on Wall Street for a company located in the WTC.

My captain was a Sondheim fanatic, having sung in several Broadway productions. The woman working with us was crazy over Ellie Greenwich. Our bartender knew every song written by Lerner and Loew, and I love the music of Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil. We spent most of the party, between serving Tequila Marinated Shrimp and Crab Fritters with Tarragon Dipping Sauce, trashing the awful MTV awards which had just taken place. Brittany Spears and her snake routine and the bastardization of "Lady Marmalade" drew most of our ire.

As we walked toward the subway that night, for no apparent reason, my Lerner and Loew friend suddenly began talking about people jumping out of buildings. He himself could not give a reason why these visions had suddenly come to him.

I have often prayed that some of our guests had had hang-overs the next day and didn't make it into work on time the next morning.

16. I'm sitting here with tears
in my eyes absolutely speechless, groping for the words to express my sorrow.
My sorrow has needed to become my anger. Angry that we are saddled with a president so incompetent. Angry that it all happened. Angry that our government may have been complicit in the tragedy. Angry that we may never be able to find out the truth. Angry about the needless loss of life during and since. Angry because so many many families are grieving and their losses are permanent.

The monsters we have in the white house and pentagon need to be driven out of power or this nation will be grieving for a long time to come.

From the deaths, to the lies. From the bombs, to the smirk. All of it.
In days gone by, we'd have taken matters into our hands. But this is the modern day, of machines. And all we can do is use our brains. I pray we do that. I pray we end this nightmare soon.

33. Thank you William
The great pain now is to see bushCorp running on the 9-11 tragedy which happened on THEIR watch, due in the LEAST to their policies of global alienation/arrogance and gross incompetence of ignoring clear warnings.

The greater pain is to see the culmination of neocon hypocrisy and manipulation in desecrating the 3000 innocent victims with their screams of "Only WE can lead you in these dangerous times of terrorism," rallied on by the prostitute press.

The greatest pain of all, however, is to see the FEAR-DRIVEN American public unable or unwilling to see through such twisted illogic, after 3 YEARS of revelations and hard thruths.

35. Today is not called 'Patriot Day'. Look at the definition and wince.
Edited on Sat Sep-11-04 06:34 AM by HypnoToad
It is really 'World Trade Center Day', ala 'Pearl Harbor Day'.

'Patriot Day' makes it sound like those who died were committing the ultimate sacrifice in the eyes of the man* who allowed it to happen to he could further his agenda of war and dominance. The people who died were not all patriots. They were victims of the largest atrocity perpetrated by violent men and wilfully overlooked by another man who is of a (surreptitiously) violent nature.

http://www.britannica.com/dictionary?book=Dictionary&va=patriot&query=patriot has the definition of patriot. We all love our country but did those who die really die to support *'s destructive ways?

This is NOT TO SAY that I am 'for' what had happened (it was despicable). I merely object to the naming of the day. It seems inappropriate. Surely 'Pearl Harbor Day' as those who died were military personnel. (of course, they're only the military. WTC staff were all corporate...)

37. Tom Ridge and * have done NOTHING AT ALL:
The media still reports on weaknesses in airlines.

The media is reporting how they surreptitiously put backpacks on busses and leave and nobody notices or does a thing.

Ridge is a thuggie little figurehead who has done nothing except terrify people with plastic wrap, duct tape, and a color scheme that does nothing for the color blind. He has done NOTHING OF SUBSTANCE. He has NOT TEAMED UP WITH TRANSIT AUTHORITIES.

POWER PLANTS AND WATER RESERVOIRS are still unprotected.

College kids successfully sneaking past security. :wow:

Even airlines had been landing in military installations.

Okay, I am a bit off the cuff. He's done a little with airline security. But the bulletproof doors and better x-ray equipment could have been done a long time ago. But it took 9/11 for it to happen, it seems.

Why does anybody want to vote in these clowns legitimately? Have they not connected the dots?!

38. And the unwanted unelected bastard of the USSC just sat there
and did NOTHING! Then he ran and hid. Bill Clinton was half way around the world and he made it to NYC long before the unelected idiot did.

I don't think any of us watching events unfold that day will ever, ever, ever forget. Sadly I have since gained a better understanding of how my mom, and the whole nation, felt the day John F. Kennedy was killed. She's never forgotten and relives the real agony of that day all over again at the sight of a photo or the mention of JFK's name. My heart still pounds when I revisit 09/11/2001 in pictures. I know that feeling will never fade out of me :-( never.
