LiberalOasis nails it! This is why Bush* is leading (kind of) in
nationwide polls:

"Perhaps the hard-right mega-negative convention played better in the Red states, widening Bush's lead in areas that won't matter on Election Day."

Kerry still does better in battleground states, which is what really counts.

12. I don't care what Alaska's worth. What I like about the EC is that it
deflates a candidate like w who might otherwise rack up a popular victory by inflaming redneck prejudices in a few deep-South states while losing most other states.

2. I'll have to look at the polls again, then. The last time I
looked, Bush was leading in a lot of the battleground states, I think. Ohio, one of the "M" states, PA, Florida, and a couple more. Maybe not by much, but it was a lead.

But this is the Repub bounce.

4. SUSA has Ohio back to within
half a point of the margin of error (spread is just over 4 points, and the MOE is 3.5 points or thereabouts), and they were one of the ones who had a big spread immediately after the convention. I think they dropped the carpet-bombing of the SwiftLiars ad, and immediately everybody went back to reading the newspaper and listening to their friends, or their bosses, or their inner voices instead of the voices of RNC operatives.

Of course, that could change next week. Thing is, for somebody who generally attempts to follow polling trends, Ohio is a nightmare this year. It's insane -- looks like the mood chart of a bipolar. I thought it was a toss-up in Ohio, and I still think so -- who knows?

Which is okay. The GOP's presumption is that they have Ohio in the bag. Let them believe that!

5. Sounds about right.
Kerry isn't doing to bad in battle ground states. Hell, he's still within striking distance in VA, which hasn't voted repug since LBJ, and Kerry isn't really even campaigning here.

8. How delicious it would be for Kerry to win the electoral college and
lose the popular vote. Not that I want that, but the mere idea of * being defeated after FINALLY winning the popular vote would make for sweet revenge.
