My retired neighbor plans to vote for *
Dangit!, I thought she was in or camp, but she is buying the "we make you safer" talking point.
I know I saw a bunch of talking points for the mis-administration somewhere.
Can anybody point me to anything like that?
She is democrat for all the local stuff, and really is a sweet lady.
But she is scared, like the fascist's want her to be.

Any help?

Thanks, Dave

1. That's a tough one
Edited on Sat Sep-11-04 04:19 PM by lancdem
I hope you don't live in a swing state, BTW. :)

Edit: Perhaps she'll change her mind once the convention/911 stuff is over.

But I am pretty stunned she said that to me.

5. Ask her how safe she felt in the hours and days and weeks after 9/11
And remind her that Georgie was the boss then.

Also:

- *real* airport security is not much better (but it sure takes longer!).

- Friendly countries no longer trust us.

- Unfriendly countries are producing more terrorists BECAUSE of Georgie.

- if she has grandchildren, remiond her that THEY will be paying for all of this shit, not Halliburton and Enron (major contributors to the Republicans)

and the other damning evidence that Bush was warned and warned about
9/11 style attacks and did nothing.

There was also a Bill Moyers PBS special on last night which was supposed
to be very good, if you can get her a copy of it.

8. How is Bush protecting us?
Edited on Sat Sep-11-04 04:35 PM by lizzy
All the money spend in Iraq, all the people send into Iraq, who is left to protect US? With all the countries turning away from US because of Bush, how is Bush protecting US? Bush is breeding terrorists, not destroying them. Tell her to think about it.

9. Ask if...
being on the verge of losing a war makes her feel safer? Tie it back to Bush's mis-administration of the war (going in alone in then not planning for the aftermath). Then mention that we pulled back from Afghanistan, were Bin Laden is, in order to fight in Iraq. Finally, mention that the 9/11 hijacker were mostly Saudi, and that * covered up investigations into the Saudis after 9/11 because he's buds with Bandar Bush.

Bush does NOT know how to "fight them over there, instead of here."

16. Tell her that Social Security and Medicare are being
targeted for elimination by the conservatives. All the talk about privatization and drug discount cards is calculated to drain the system dry of funding and then eliminate the programs altogether. Newt Gingrich said so. He said he was going to shoot Medicare and Social Security so full of holes they will have to die. His successors are following his program. Ask her if she is prepared to move in with a relative and go without health care at the time of her life that she needs it most.

The man came to fix my refridgerator (in Florida). He was about 42 years old, but l;ooked younger. He said that Bush gave him confidence and Kerry didn't.

Edited on Sat Sep-11-04 05:06 PM by jdjkkse
That is the only "single issue" in this election.

Wesley and James, my two draft age nephews, are going to be my battle cry from now on to all the repuke relatives.

oh, and the top age is around 35, so this could apply to her children, too.

25. Send her THIS news story...
How George Bush bankrupted the war on terror
Are we safer after invading Iraq? No. Would we be safer if we'd spent the hundreds of billions the war has cost on improving our own security at home? Yes.

- - - - - - - - - - - -
By Farhad Manjoo

Sept. 11, 2004
| In September 2002, Lawrence Lindsey, then the White House's chief economic advisor, was asked by the Wall Street Journal to predict the economic cost of the looming war in Iraq. Lindsey should have expected the question; the Bush administration had long been cagey on the costs of war, explaining that if it decided to invade Iraq, the decision would not come down to money but to principle. Yet Lindsey apparently didn't brush up on his talking points. Instead, he candidly told the Journal that invading Iraq would cost the United States between 1 percent and 2 percent of the nation's gross domestic product -- about $100 to $200 billion.

That wouldn't break the bank, Lindsey insisted; considering the size of the U.S. economy, "that's nothing." And let's not forget Iraq's oil wealth, he reminded the newspaper. "When there is a regime change in Iraq, you could add 3 million to 5 million barrels of production to world supply" each day, he said. The added supply would reduce worldwide oil prices, and thus "the successful prosecution of the war would be good for the economy."

More here.
