Republicans Voting For Kerry?
On the Kerry/Edwards board there is an area dedicated to Republicans that are voting for Kerry and feel that Bush does not represent the agenda of their party. This has been countered by a site known as Celiberal where they have declared the Republicans on the forum either traitors or frauds that were never Republicans to begin with.

This made me wonder about how many people are in the Republican party who don't feel that Bush represents their party. Are these people that would potentially vote for Kerry in large numbers? How many of them are actually out there and how could they be convinced?

1. That has intrigued me as well and I went to that site last night...
I found a yahoo group link for Republicans for Kerry and I joined just so I could see their perspectives. A lot look like fiscal conservatives upset with the debt and spending. Rockefellar Republicans tend to be more liberal I've learned, too. It might be a good group to recommend to Republicans not happy with Bush.

3. My entire family is Republican,
and they're ALL voting for Kerry. My dad and stepmom, all my aunts and uncles and cousins. My one aunt saw Farenheit 9/11 and said she felt like that old woman, who said she was duped about the war. And one of my cousins was on the USS Abraham Lincoln for Bush's flight suit debacle, and he said everyone was pissed off because Bush delayed their landing, and the whole thing was done like a Hollywood movie.

And about 16 of my former in-laws, all Republican, are voting for Kerry. So the Republicans voting for Kerry is not a myth.

4. My Dad Is a Dem and He's Voting For Bush
See, it's the complete opposite in my family. My dad is voting for Bush in this election and it's specifically because of terrorism. I can't believe how he feels about all of this. When I visit he complains all day about how the press is too negative about the president and believes Bush is doing the best he can. He won't read any articles. He won't watch any documentaries. He turns off The Daily Show if it ever says anything bad about Bush(which basically means he turns it a lot. The exception to that rule is if they just make fun of how the president acts stupid during speeches. For some reason he'll laugh at that but not at any specific criticisms). Like a lot of other Americans he's fallen into the trap of believing that Bush equals America, the troops, and it is unpatriotic to question him because it's a time of war.

The good thing is that my uncle is a Kerry supporter. However, my dad just says he's blindly following his political party and any sensible person would know Bush is the better choice. Pfft.

5. Your father might find the phenomenon
of republicans not supporting Bush harder to cast off as "blindly following the party..." as he does with your uncle... or "media bias" (or anything else)... maybe introduce the idea by laughingly telling him... "hey Dad, I found there are more people like you... but the oppositie... there is a whole movement of republicans who are voting for Kerry - just like you are a democrat voting for Bush... thought you might find that interesting. I know your reasoning (ie he has told you)... but am curious to go find out and read about their reasoning...."

2. I visited Republicans4Kerry.org last night
I asked if I could sit in. I got a very nice e-mail back that said I was welcomed as long as I identified myself as a Dem and didn't post too much. The site is really for repubs.
It a nice site but not a lot of activity or traffic and it shows in only has 94 members.
