Wondered if the "September 11 Anniversary Hype Police" did this
Just wondered if the "September 11 Anniversary Hype Police" gave anyone grief for daring to go out and about on Saturday.

1. I bought a car
for my 16 year old son today. While we were doing the paperwork, my son and I joked that when he's older and we're remembering his first car, we'll always know what day we got it. Today is also my ex-husband's birthday, so we were saying yeah, there's lots of reasons to remember 9/11. Then we figured we better just shut up.

2. I bought some additional postage stamps for various things on Saturday,
and I didn't have any "run ins" with the "Sept 11 anniversary hype Nazis," but this message was inspired by someone on this board who was given grief by a clerk for < gasp> daring to go toy shopping on September 11.

I also couldn't help but wonder what if someone lost a pet a couple of months or years back, and they decided that they were ready to adopt another puppy or kitten from the humane shelter, which they did a few days back, and owing to the 2 - 3 day waiting period the humane shelter required that they go through on account of how every animal at the humane shelter had to go through the usual castration /spay surgery and recovery time from the operation, the animal was ready to be picked up on SEPTEMBER 11, of all days.

3. At my office yesterday
the receptionist hung up this HUGE American flag, and a sign that said "9/11 We Remember" or something like that. Like we're not gonna remember 9/11. I remember what I doing when Princess Diana died, for god's sake. The receptionist is sort of a ditz, though. Right after we went to Iraq, she put up pictures of dead Iraqi soldiers with US soldiers standing over them, and yellow ribbons stapled to them. I sort of told her off, and said that Iraqi people are just as sad when their families members die as we are. And months later I snuck in and put up Abu Ghraib torture pictures just to annoy her.

But on the bright side, maybe we'll get 9/11 as a paid holiday if this stuff keeps up.

4. Was of 2 minds concerning the September 11 anniversary hype, since a part
Edited on Sun Sep-12-04 02:45 AM by Valerie5555
of me did believe that yes, the victims and survivors did warrant a solemn and earnest remembrance for all or part of the day and a part of me also wondered if people would also have to be concerned about going about their business and going out and about every August 6th, lest they appear irreverent towards the Japanese.

BTW A local cat club always had their yearly spring cat show on the weekend that always seemed the closest to April 18 - 19, and I highly doubt concerns about being reverent towards the anniversaries of what happened at Waco and Oklahoma City ever did enter their minds.

On edit, It also may not seem fair that anyone should also have their patriotism questioned just because they also happened to have a September 11 birthday or anniversary.
