Anyone who doubts that the Sept. 11, 2001 Islamic terrorist strike had long been foreshadowed need only check Hollywood's long roster of movies about such diabolical attacks.
Shortly after what was the worst attack on the U.S.A. in history, America's national security adviser proclaimed that no one could have imagined the scale of an act of war such as occurred on that black Tuesday. Actually, many in Hollywood -- writers, directors, producers -- could and did, often with penetrating motion pictures for the big and small screen.
http://boxofficemojo.com/features/?id=1448&p=.htmI thought this article was worthy of attention. The recent attack on the Russian school reminded me of the film "The Siege". Terrorism existed and was feared long before 09/11/01, although the events of that day may always define our perceptions.
I can remember the controversy surrounding "The Siege". A friend of mine is a director from the Middle East who was trying to encourage the ME community to give the film a chance. He considered it a fair depiction, but most of the Muslim American community were upset because they believed the Islamic Terrorists were an unfair stereotype.
IIRC, it was Saudi Arabian groups that were mostly opposed to the film.
