I've changed my mind about the Kitty Kelley book.
At first, I thought the book should be dismissed as malicious gossip. I still think most of it is malicious gossip, but as the polls have shown, the Swift Boat Veterans lied and helped Bush in the polls. If our media doesn't bother to set the record straight on Republican lies, thereby hurting our candidate, I say let the Kitty Kelley book be read by as many people as possible. Republicans absolutely hate it when we play by their rules; let's do it!

1. Kitty Kelly's book will be damaging because of its audience
Her trash wallows have always attracted the lightweights, and let's face it, there are a lot more of them than there are of us. Her books appeal to the people who, if they don't read the Enquirer, at least look at it while they wait in line. Her books are for the mass audience, the people who watch "reality TV" instead of news and only tune into PBS for the children's programming.

It's going to be fun watching all the stuff we know about Bush to seep into the mainstream.

5. and it's these lightweights who are bush voters
Just perhaps a few of them will change their minds, but most won't dare read anything that would tarnish their "lord and savior."

8. I can read Kitty Kelley's book, watch reality t.v. AND watch PBS......
to be fair, Kitty Kelley tells the good as well as the bad in her books....I was flipping through my mom's copy of Nancy Reagan (she picked it up at a garage sale!) and she put in the good things people had to say about Reagan....

I don't consider myself a lightweight by a long shot..... :)

2. I hate books like that too but
the Dems don't work the way the GOP does and that is why there is the perception that * has such good 'character' and is honest. We who read and really listen know that that is so far from the truth it would be be a joke if he weren't President, we know that the press works overtime to coverup for him but the rest of the country doesn't. I hope this opens the door to the more important charges sticking.

4. Long Live Kitty Kelley
Let's face it. The guys are having a tough time getting us out of this mess. Perhaps a "lady" will be *'s final undoing. Isn't it in revelations that the prophecy is made: "And a woman shall surround a man?" as in, defeat him?

Go, Lady. Anything derogatory toward Bush is something we should take joy and confidence in......

for us "taxi the children" (and wait forever:P ) everywhere moms, let's order the audio CD. It will be great fun listening to her stick-it-to the Bush Dynasty while doing needlepoint ... seems like an excellent plan. :-)

7. the book *should* be radioactive
Kelley has never been sucessfully sued. The RWs high (CNN) and low (FR) willl be tempted to howl LIES but that will only serve to keep the book and its revelations in the light.

Kelley is not published by a trash outfit like Regnery, so the book has been vetted thoroughly.

they expect and are ready for the attacks, which will only serve to pump up sales.

the bushies can't simply ignore it. the wingnuts will expect their revered masters to dispell the witch...

but, they will be on the defense. they will have to prove her wrong. and they won't be able to. and while they try... the stories stay in the media.

nobody likes to be lied to, on the right or the left. the right won't abandon their beliefs, but they *might* abandon a fatally tarnished leader.

11. If Kelley's book gets 1/4th the coverage the Swifties got, I'll be shocked
The corporate press is shamelessly whoring for Bush. I expect they'll talk about this Kitty Kelley book for 3 days, and the angle will be, "why is this political race so dirty?".

I'm not saying her book won't have an impact on alot of people- it very well could. I just don't think the corporate press will ever do the sort of media feeding frenzy for us that they do for corporate stooges like GW Bush.

Still, I agree with you. We should be fighting just as dirty as they are.

12. The book will shoot to Number 1.
Edited on Sun Sep-12-04 10:49 AM by LibDemAlways
It won't matter if Kelley gets totally shut out by the corporate whores. There will be enough word of mouth on this to assure a huge readership. Think of the millions whose primary reading material is People magazine or Natl. Enquirer. This is tailor made for them - and just in time before the election to do some serious damage to the chimp's reputation. I'm smiling.

13. Gossip Ain't Necessarily "Malicious" and KELLEY's Work Ain't "Trash"
Edited on Sun Sep-12-04 10:56 AM by UTUSN
I suppose that if somebody puts out gossip WITH THE INTENT of causing purposeful harm it would be "malicious". What about if a body's intent in releasing some secret TRUTHS is to rip away a false image somebody is perpetrating about himself? As for the "trash" argument, repeating, it's KELLEY's subjects who DO the trash. She writes it down, probably for both monetary and enjoyment motives, but HER WRITING is not "trash".

Here's the dictionary definition of gossip. Nowhere in it are there connotations of "untruth" or "malice" or "trash". Just the opposite of "untruth," it refers to REPORTS of FACTS about "intimate" and "sensational" topics.

15. OtOH, Let's NOT Hang Excessive Hopes on KELLEY's Bombshells, If Any
Edited on Sun Sep-12-04 11:18 AM by UTUSN
There have already been a few items posted here with tidbits about what KELLEY's book contains---------coke, abortion, pissing on cars, etc. Poor James HATFIELD put almost all of this out there ago and paid a price.

Kicking myself for quoting HITCHENS, but here's his take on her "The Royals", making this point back when:

http://www.salon.com/sept97/royalsb970917.html

.... First off, contrary to alarums in certain quarters, few hearts will stop beating as a result of Kelley's 502-page efforts. "The Royals," for the most part, is a compendium of all the critical material already out there on the House of Windsor. If nothing else, it means you can purge your shelves of a lot of junk books that have been published, without any apparent trouble from the majesty of the law, in the past few years. ....
