Should American Troops ever be placed under UN Command?
If we are to gain support from a lot of the world we will need to show that we don't look upon ourselves as superior to the other countries. This issue of American troops only under American Command is a slap in the face to the entire rest of the world. We would never allow our entire forces to be under any other Command than US but small units operating with NATO or the UN should be under the Command of either NATO or UN to allow for a successful mission, not to say an American could not be that leader. They all have to work as a Unit. I could never see Companies having any other commander than American but who that CO gets orders from may be a Foreign Officer. That is my sentiment anyway, am I way off base? A lot of countries would agree to send troops to Iraq to help the situation but only under UN command and not that of America.

2. Absolutely.
Until such time as American leadership shows it can lead competently again. Hell, I live here and I don't trust 'em to lead anymore. Why should someone from anywhere else in the world rely on these bumblers we've put in charge?
Not only do they frequently screw up, but they stubbornly and stupidly "stay the course" even when proven wrong.

3. It would undoubtedly be better than the command they are currently under.

6. Abso-f'in-lutely
I know this makes me anti-american. Probably a godless terrorist commie pinko faggot who prays for the death of every American. I've heard that enough.

Are we part of the world or not? No, the UN is not perfect by any stretch of the imagination but contrary to 'Murican's beliefs neither are we. Not by a loooooong f^ckin' shot. If we're going to be part of the world, then we should at least attempt to play nice with the other people who live in it, and drop this Psychotic Den Mother meets Playground Bully self-righteous bullshit attitude we've got.

On top of that, there's really no escaping the fact that we have some heartless criminals running the country. There are times I desperately wish that the UN could exert more control over us and thereby be able to hold the Enemy of the People accountable for his actions. We can't seem to do that.

7. I don't have a problem with it.
I think we should have no units lower than brigade operating in a UN command, with a COL or BG in charge. I was army infantry for ten years, and as long as I was operating within my battalion and brigade, it wouldn't matter too much who was the next echelon up.

8. During the Civil War it was: "Should state troops ever be placed under ...
... Federal command?" Students of that time should note that enlisted men were almost always 'led' by officers from their own state, both North and South.
