Mauna Loa may erupt.
Scientists monitoring Mauna Loa have noticed an increasing number of earthquakes under Mauna Loa which may signal magma moving up the volcano. Mauna Loa has'nt erupted in 20 years.

1. Yikes
Good and bad news

Good

1. It is a spectacular sight to see
2. It will create more land.

Bad

1. The lava flow from Mauna Loa almost reached a populated town in 1984.
2. More Vog in the air.

3. We looked at land
there around that volcano. Decided not to move there for other reasons. Lots of people will be affected if it blows. Beautiful place.

4. I've always wanted to visit Hawaii and see if I liked it.
Around February here in Missouri I get a yen to go someplace warm. I've been to Florida and did'nt like it. Padre Island and Corpus Christi or Galveston were better.

7. HI! I am in Kansas neighbor
and I have been there 3 times. It is a beautiful place and one of the places I feel physically at my best, the islands of the Caribbean the other. It seemed unfair for us to move there. The native people have put up with so much and their beautiful islands have been changed to American Resort Central and much of that land has been destroyed. It just did not seem like the right thing to do to move there. Many MANY nice people live there and the native people are some of the nicest I have met until you talk about moving there, many do not want you there and I guess we just came to the point that we understood that. Go if you ever get the chance. The air smells like flowers.

9. we looked at land, and houses in various places around the island too-
and we sill have a few god friends living there.
The Big Island is one of my favourite places on earth...i have fond memories of the blacksand beaches at kalapana, the queen's bath not to far away...and it's all gone now.

but there's still some FANTASTIC diving around the island, mostly on the kona side..we did the "manta ray madness" night dive, and it was waaaaay cool.

well- if it blows, i won't have to feel so bad about not making the move earlier.

5. Not good! Don't like "vog"!
And I'm moving to the Big Island in a couple of years and natural disasters seem to follow me around.

Witness the hurricane Iniki in '92 two months after I moved to Kauai.

A billion $$$ hailstorm in '91, in Denver after I moved there in '90!

Unusual Mini tornadoes in upstate New York after I moved there in '98, and the record snowfall on Christmas Day, two years ago!

Is it any wonder I'm getting anxious about Mouna Loa and not at all surprised by your post?

6. Were you in Missouri during the great tornado outbreak?
Can we blame that on you? :)

8. I had friends
who lost everything in Iniki. They had a huge development they were building, Spielburg had just filmed part of a movie there on their land, they were building movie star houses and it all got blown away. What a beautiful island and you moved away? Personally I prefer the Big Island as a tourist with children. Without them they are all so lovely. I love the diving off the Big Island. Good luck moving back.
