BIG STORY: US News & WR digs up INDEPENDENT EVIDENCE showing Bush even more AWOL than we thought
by John in DC - 9/11/2004 10:56:07 PM

According to USNews, Bush's violation of the rules was EVEN WORSE THAN WE THOUGHT. This is a BIG honking story. At this point, I'll give the GOP the CBS memos if they want 'em - who cares if they're real now. USNews, known to be a conservative-leaning magazine, has just come up with indepdendent evidence showing Bush shirked EVEN MORE of his National Guard duty than we thought, that the White House lied about it, and that there is no explanation for how Bush could reasonably get an honorable discharge.

Now is the time for some blogosphere coordination, friends. Send this story to your friends. Send it to your favorite blogs, your favorite email lists, your favorite bulletin boards. Hell, put the link to the story as the signature on your email or you bulletin board postings. Do whatever you can to make sure that as many people as possible take and run with this story so we can FORCE the mainstream media to pick up on this. It's what the vast right-wing conspiracy would do, it's time we did the same. Let's make this story BIG.

1. Here is a previous thread. Yes, this is a good article and
I hope the news will jump all over it but I was hoping that last night and it hasn't happened yet.

2. As you said, even that conservative magazine says Bush
didn't complete his service.

5. Every active duty and vet should know about this!
I spent 10 years in the Navy and, like anyone else in the military, was deathly afraid of ever being AWOL or UA (as we called it in the Navy) for ANYTHING! The importance of being present and on time is impressed upon every servicemember from day one. It's literally hammered into you. I was 2 hours late for work one day early in my career and received restrictions and a reduction in pay. If I had failed to show up for my watch during wartime there would have been hell to pay. The penalties are severe, up to and including the death penalty. This is bullshit!! He should have been called to active duty for not fulfilling his Guard requirements. And now his chickenhawk/chickenshit ass is sending poor kids off to die. Fuck him and his silver spoon!!

8. That's the whole point of all this AWOL stuff.
If this had happened to other no named individuals in the guard, they would have been penalized heavily. But that didn't happen to Bush*. He got a pass and he's still getting a pass...thanks to the republican party and the media.

9. I wonder if anyone else who went AWOL around the same time
and who did suffer the penalties would be willing to speak out.

11. I'd like to see a WHOLE BUNCH of our guys in Iraq pull some of the
get-out-of-jail-free stuff bush did, to be able to leave there and get home. They should say - well, our commander-in-chief did it. Why can't I?

I think just a HUGE bunch of our troops should do that. Make a MAJOR LEAGUE issue about it. Well, if it's good for HIM, then it's good for US, TOO! Or ... well, george bush did it and you certainly didn't give HIM a dishonorable discharge. Just following his example, sir!

By the way, thank you for your service and your sacrifice, and Welcome to DU! george doesn't appreciate you as anything more than cannon fodder. WE, here at DU, and elsewhere in the rational and TRULY compassionate world, DEFINITELY and ARDENTLY DO!
