Frist:AWB expiring is the will of the American people
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/ideas_opinions/story/231440p-198730c.html

"I think the will of the American people is consistent with letting it expire, so it will expire," Frist said in his gentle bedside tone.

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist performed 150 heart and lung transplants as a renowned surgeon. It would take an AK-47 assault rifle precisely 15 seconds to snuff out as many lives as Dr. Frist saved in his 20 years at the operating table.

The will of the American people? A recent poll showed that 71% of Americans want the ban extended. Even 64% of gun owners favor the ban.

Want a laugh? Just read the official biography on the Web site of this doctor-turned-pol (www.frist.senate.gov). By his account, he's up there with Mother Teresa, "devoting his life to what he care about most - helping people." He's a lover of humanity, a champion in the fight against AIDS and a leader in protecting America against bioterrorism, according to the site.

1. An AK-47 for every person of color in America.
Parade in the streets like the Panthers did in Oakland, back in the day.

Let's see how fast the "will of the American people" suddenly changes ...

2. Oh no not THOSE 'Murkan people
they is scary!

No the will of the American people who don't read into the third paragraph and find out that most people see how dangerous assault weapons are and that it is okay to be against them. THOSE 'Murkan people.

3. What a load of crap... 'the will of the people'...
Does anyone else think that Frist looks like a vampire? All white and bloodless and pasty looking..

He would be the LAST person I would ever want working on my body.:scared:

4. Another example of the Repug's Bizarro world -
Black = White, up = down, etc. Bush and the gang are making us safer, one assault rifle murder at a time.

5. A lot of hyperbole and misinformation in that opinion piece
For example:

Even more shocking is the timing. Short of a miracle, the weapons ban will die tonight, just 48 hours after the third anniversary of 9/11 - and two weeks after some 350 Russian adults and children, were massacred by terrorists armed with assault weapons.

Not correct. The terrorist were armed with machineguns (fully automatic rifles) and explosives.

See http://www.atf.gov/ for a dose of truth about this issue.

6. he's right a lot of folks went down because of that ban, gore
was one of them. I wish the repugs would do the same thing to abortion. I can not get pregnant, so it doesn't effect me and if the women of this country don't care enough about it to make it a non-issue, I don't see why my candidate has to carry that monkey on his back.

7. In the early 90s I lived in a very bad neighborhood
One of the worst in the Pittsburgh area and assault weapons were a big problem. I'm sure the people who still live there are not happy about this ban expiring.

8. I'm sure...
the bayonettings are already under way. :eyes:

Face it, the so-called "assault weapons" ban was a sham. It only banned a few scary-looking cosmetic features. It never kept a single semi-automatic AR-15 or AK-47 clone from the market.

Most Americans have been terribly misled by the anti-gun propaganda into thinking that "assault weapons" are machine guns. That makes one line opinion polls worthless.

13. I agree that that AWB bill is deficient
If they REALLY want to limit the availability there are many much more effective and stringent measures they could put in place.

This was watered down by NRA money 10 years ago but I think many saw it as a good place to start and the right framework to work under-wimpy tri-angulation I know but the public hears what it hears and W is very wrong on this. This will bite him in the ass no matter how much money the NRA throws at him (see link below-the NRA just might endorse W after the Repubs let this extention die, maybe just maybe he will get that endorsement :eyes: )

11. 68% favor the ban

http://sify.com/news/international/fullstory.php?id=13565276
Backed by a poll by the University of Philadelphia's National Annenberg election survey, which found that 68 percent of Americans support the ban, the Million Moms March group bombarded the White House on Friday with phone calls and petitions.

Police chiefs from across America sought a meeting but said it was told the president has a "scheduling conflict".

International Association of Chiefs of Police president Joseph Polisar said: "This year alone there have been more than a dozen officers killed with assault weapons."

Los Angeles Police Chief William Bratton added: "These are weapons of murder. They're not weapons of hunting or collecting. "The irony is we'll probably have more of these weapons in the United States than there are in Iraq in the hands of insurgents."

15. That's what I heard, too.
It's the NRA who favor it so Congress is letting it expire.

10. Given that like the Nazis the Busheviks think their foes subhuman
not "Real Germans", you know, err "Real Amerikans", the Frist comment makes perfect sense.

Perfect sense. Everyone Frist thinks is human wants the ban to go.

As every Real German wanted the Jewsih Problem "dealt with".

Some things never change.

I have no idea which side this "blog" (God I hate that word) is on but it has three links to polls and the Coalition to STop Gun Violence already hails Kerry's plan (no surprise there)

16. Most people are misinformed about the now-defunct ban
I have a collection of links to posts on DU forums by people who believe (or believed) that it covered fully automatic weapons.
