Cindy Adams: Big Dog at home "in pain, immobile," friends renting videos
September 13, 2004 -- BILL Clinton's movie industry pals are lamenting, where-oh-where- have-the-happy-films gone. He's recuperating, but it's no walk in the park. He's in pain. Immobile. Friends are casting about for entertainment to give him an up, a lift, something that would make him feel better, bring a smile for those endless homebound hours. Reading won't be as relaxing as movies and the new crop is all heavy....

***

Clinton's house has no screening room, so he can't be provided with 16mm or 35mm prints of maybe "Sideways," which is about wine country, or "Polar Express" with Tom Hanks and kids off to the South Pole. Fear of piracy has shut down advance cassettes.

His friends' solution? Renting the oldies like Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman's "Casablanca." Something with a nice story, nice clothes and a nice feeling.

As for Hillary's solution, she's just glad to get out of that hospital where she was a prisoner. It's being able to move without the omnipresent camera crews. It's having him home....

1. If he's immobile, he's heading for trouble
I think there's a lot of fiction in this particular piece of sentimental crap.

Getting over heart surgery requires WORK, and Clinton's a workaholic. I have a feeling he's doing a lot of walking and writing.

2. Yes, I agree with you
It's a little early yet though.
It's only been a week, so he probably isn't doing much walking.

The first couple of weeks are the hardest, after that we should see some major improvement.

4. My dad had a triple bypass a few years ago.
And believe me, at one week post-op, it was all he could do to get from his bed to the living room. He was clutching his "cough bear" the whole time (stuffed teddy bear to hold next to his chest when he had to cough,etc.). Of course, he was 70 years old at the time, which is considerably older than Big Dog is, but still.

Bypass surgery is no walk in the cake. It's major invasive surgery. It's going to take awhile before Bill is back to anything resembling normal. He needs to get up and about somewhat, so he doesn't develop a bloodclot, though.

3. That's true, they get patients moving -- maybe "homebound"...
more than "immobile"?

5. This is from a Murdoch gossip column
Edited on Mon Sep-13-04 07:21 AM by socialdemocrat1981
From the "Kerry picks Gephardt" newspaper. I'll take it with the grain of salt that anything in this paper deserves

Look further down the page
******************************************************************
CAMP Kerry has become Noah's Ark. Two consultants for everything. While the newies have moved in, the oldies are still in place. Like chief of staff Mary Cahill stays put. Doesn't look nice to have a public beheading. The candidate is angry. Not at the Bushies. Not at his team. Not at his campaign. At himself. With himself. He's blaming himself. It's like he thinks he should've said, "Look, I got shot at. The other guy didn't. End of story. I won't talk about this anymore."

The Republicans are focused. The Democrats are going into therapy.

This publication is just RW drivel as far as I'm concerned

6. Don't know how Cindy knows what's inside Kerry's head!
I did post the report about Bill, because I thought it was pretty innocuous: all surgery patients have to recuperate, and the movie part was just a bit of frippery. Thought people might be interested in a report, if even from a gossip --

Cindy's a Republican, but she's written her column for the Post, and been herself, for decades before Murdoch bought Alexander Hamilton's paper, and made it the winger journal it is today. They do continue to run Liz Smith's gossip column, and Liz is a true, blue Democrat, who often lets it show in what she writes.

Article from the week of Repug Convention. Link no longer works

August 29, 2004 -- BOARD up Wendy's, Denny's and Arby's. Get off the streets. The dele gates are coming.

What hasn't been mentioned is the many tactical problems associated with them coming here. For instance, airlines don't know if a spittoon is considered carry-on. Another thing, not all of our hotels are goat-friendly. And our restaurants have a dress code: no overalls. Our stores are shutting down because they know (A) that even the Religious Right realizes J.C. can also mean Penney. And (B) these people won't buy fall wardrobe made of real wool. They have to protect their family members. And (C) our cops are confused. They don't know if chewing tobacco is against the law.

Aliens from far-off galaxies like Louisiana and Utah are invading us.

(snip)

We're talking foreign folk to whom gravy is a main dish. They will jam our restaurants. Not places like Le Cirque because, to them, international cuisine means french fries. Maybe Greek salad.

8. I've read that she is -- but could be wrong...
She certainly can work the other side of the fence.

Anytime she netions Michael Moore she refers to him as,'blowhard mockumentary film maker, Michael Moore' or'Bush hating, anti-american filmmaker, Michael Moore" stuff like that pisses me of. She also refers to Alec Baldwin as "The Bloviator". Cindy Adams is a nasty little bitch! ANyone she doesn't like(mostly celebrity Dems) she trashes! Don't get ehr started on Streisand!

11. meanwhile... in the OTHER NYC tabloid....

Less than a week after his lifesaving heart surgery, Bill Clinton celebrated his newfound health yesterday by relaxing on his sun-drenched patio. The Daily News found the former President strolling his back deck in a T-shirt and baseball cap enjoying a glorious September afternoon.
