Accelerating toward total police state
It seems to me that today's posts are all indicating an acceleration toward a total police state in the US and we must stop it quickly or it will be too late. Today's posts: The Flag Burning Ammendment = loss of freedom of expression. Teacher in trouble for tearing up a bible=loss of freedom of expression. Young girl "urged" to recite the pledge in school=intimidation to conform. A corporae fascist state has already emerged and is in control of the media and therefore the minds of most people. The only abberration I can see is the lift on the AWB today and that triggers my paranoia that the Righties know that they will be unseated and they are arming their most extreme haters to defy the new president and rampage. So---yes I am a leeeetle paranoid but I'm sure I'm not alone. Anyone else notcie the acceleration?

2. Incredible Similarities
But keep sleeping people. "Hey! American Idol is on. I notice they don't sing any John Lennon songs on that show anymore..."

5. Welcome to DU
Between your inconsistent sarcasm and your apparent embracing of racist terms, I can't tell what you are in favor of. But personal attacks are against the rules.

Just to be more clear about my post. I'm uncomfortable having police departments in America tied to foreign corporations. Especially corporations based in countries which have recently attacked us.

10. You know there is a term for people who are very
conscious of race and who want to know what other posters race is so that they can spout stereotypes....it is right on the tip of my tongue. Mmmmmmm. What is that word??

14. I did not ask the question
so that I could respond next with a racist comment to you. I asked the question only to make a point. Obviously it is lost on you.

8. Of course it was sarcasm

and it was not a personal attack. If anything, your racist insinuation that the descendents of "the people who bombed Pearl Harbor" (Japanese) "are now sponsoring observation blimps" is a personal attack against everyone who is Japanese and to a lesser extent Asian. It's BS just like every other racists comments. Contrary to your claim the vast majority of Japanese would not "sponsor observation blimps" to aid mass arrests of new yorkers.

11. Yes, I SAID it was sarcasm
I said it was INCONSISTENT sarcasm because you, not me, listed a bunch of racist terms and asked about the race of another poster.

My comment, for the third time, was about a corporation which competes directly with an similar American company, Kodak. Here is some background:

After Fuji cut prices by as much as 30 percent last summer, Kodak began making noises about charging its rival with "dumping" film here. Kodak had already spent much of the last two years pressing a case before the World Trade Organization. It charged Japan with illegal trade practices that kept Kodak out of consumer markets there and gave Fuji a "profit sanctuary" which allowed it to accept lower margins on its sales in the United States.

And please note, many if not most people on here will just alert the moderator when someone makes a personal attack on them. You know absolutely nothing about me and yet you apparently feel free to convict me of alleged racism based on a comment about multi-national corporations. Attacking the speaker is a common tactic of those who cannot refute the facts. It adds nothing to the discussion and it is disruptive.

15. Very clever spin
Edited on Mon Sep-13-04 02:04 PM by Yuna
Since when does Fuji (more than likely the american branch that mostly employs white americans) represent Japan? Were they made the official representative and I have not heard? Are you aware american corporations have literally killed people abroad to make profit? (Haliburton, for example) Are they representative of most americans?

You say you are only comparing the company, yet in your first post you say "the same people that bombed pearl harbor". Fuji bombed pearl harbor? I was not aware of that. Either by the "same people" you meant Fuji or Japanese. One of them is possible, the other is not.

I also find it amusing you are complaing about a Japanese company coming to America when American corporations are by far the most infamous for exploiting as many foregin nations as possible. Slave labor in China perhaps? Oil wars for profit?

Regardless, your attempt to frame the Japanese people as you did is noted.

13. Bayonet Lugs....
Big Whoop, eh?

Oh, the limit on magazine capacity may have been worth-while but the rest of the AWB was just cosmetics, window dressing to go home and tell the folks "I'm REAL TOUGH on gun crime! I voted for this!"

I don't NEED no STEENKEEN bayonet lug to create mayhem. A standard issue SMLE in .303 (still legal to buy, even under the AWB) will do just fine, thankee.....
