It is gut-wrenching.

The ESPN announcers are doing SportsCenter from a base in Kuwait, and they are not rah-rahing the war or Bush. They are just focusing on the soldiers who are over there, repeating as a mantra "You guys are going home soon, you guys are going home soon."

At least once an episdode, they do a retrospective on some soldiers, who talk about how hard it is over there, the friends they have lost, and how they just want to go home to their families.

Millions and millions of people - mostly young white men - watch ESPN SportsCenter. They're going to spend this week hearing - indirectly, but unmistakably - how much is sucks to be a soldier in George W. Bush's army.

1. I wish they would spend more time with the infantrymen.
Broadcasting from a base in Kuwait makes it look like everything is secure. The grunts generally don't have time for R&R events in Kuwait.
