Montgomery Volunteer Let Touch-Screen Unit Be Tested by CBS News

A volunteer Maryland election worker touched off a frenzied legal effort in Montgomery County yesterday after he refused to return a touch-screen voting machine, telling state election officials he intended to let an expert hired by CBS News examine it.

In a Montgomery court yesterday, the county election board argued that the machine is a "demonstration unit" and that testing by the news organization could wrongly undermine confidence in the machines that will be used in November.

Don't know what they could possibly be afraid of - unless of course what they demonstrate is different from what they'll use in the actual election? Such shenanigans should undermine confidence IN THE ELECTION BOARD as well as confidence in the machines.

The words "Smoke & mirrors, people! Big shiny objects and a bunch of other stuff!" come to mind.

3. Just came from my local Democratic Club meeting tonight where

an election judge stated that the machines have a tape or something inside to review the totals. She says the touch screens here in MD are in fine order. I don't think she knows what she is talking about!
