1. Is he spending time researching why Iraq is a good idea?
Those were great columns. Why it is a good idea to illegally invade a country under the shroud of lies and force democracy down a countries throat. I miss him also.

7. He seemed to be coming around,
step by agonizing step, to the realization that he'd been completely wrong from the beginning. Then his columns stopped. Same with Jack Anderson.

3. Yeah, my favorite column of his in November 2002 is:
"Just Give War a Chance" in the NYT.

A 'cute' play on the Vietnam era mantra of "Just Give Peace A Chance"

5. No, he's writing a book about how job outsourcing is
inevitable and we little people just need to grin and
bear it.

(I read an interview he did with a company VP out of South
America about how Indian companies are now outsourcing their
jobs to South America because Indian workers are now demanding
overtime, unemployment, medical, blah, blah, blah. It was
sickening.)

13. When returns from wherever he has been hibernating, he will
be spouting off about the wisdom of Bombay Taxicab drivers telling Tom how outsourcing is good for America and India. Tom will have a few quotations from the backseat of a Bombay Taxicab and we will be asked to express our amazement that Tom was able to pry these bits of wisdom loose. The only thing missing would be an unscheduled appearance by the giggling Maharishi.

6. No journalist in America is as consistently wrong as Mr. Friedman
If you ever want to be on the correct side of a major issue, just wait and find out where Tom stands, and then run as fast as you can in the opposite direction.

He's a complete and total hack who is more infatuated with his own celebrity than maintaining any pretense of journalism.

12. No, I didn't.
As much as I disagree with Bill Safire's perspective, at least he does make sense from time to time. For instance, he was more vociferous than all the other NYT Op-Ed columnists in denouncing the excesses of the USA PATRIOT Act and the erosion of privacy rights. IIRC, Friedman didn't even touch that.

Plus, with Safire, at least he's an out-and-out Nixonite-conservative. Friedman tries to give the appearance of being center-left while coming down on the wrong side of almost every major issue -- especially trade issues, and the War on Iraq.

14. Friedman tries to be reasonable on Israel/Palestine and has the balls
to criticize Bush. Safire is a Likudnik asswipe.
