Question for Canadians
We're seriously thinking about moving to Canada. We have job skills that I think we can use there. It's mainly because we're tired of the government here not taking care of the people. Consumer protections...down the drain. Commercialism...rampant. Corruption...everywhere. The public is generally apathetic. If * is elected again, I'll finally be guilty of what they've been accusing us of all along: being ashamed to be an American. We don't want to raise children here anymore. Canada is so cool. I love it. My question is this:
Where are the more liberal areas? I'd hate to move there and end up in the most conservative area of Canada!! What about the media? Is it fairly safe from the bias we have here? Do people make their political judgements on soundbites there? Thanks for any info you can give us on Canada and the people there.

1. I'm not a Canadian...
But I worked for many years for a Canadian company. I spent a lot of time in Vancouver, and it seemed pretty liberal. It's a beautiful area as well.

I ran into some folks, though, who weren't very down on Americans. Once they found out I was a Democrat and hated Mussolini-style Republican facism they were okay, but I still heard a lot of grievances against the states. If you can deal with that, I'd say go for it. Canadians are, for the most part, very fine people.

5. Thanks!
I try the Canadian forum. Geez, I didn't even know there was one there. I could probably learn a lot there.

2. Move to Ontario....very liberal and Liberal
Alberta and some parts of BC are very rightwing.

We have newspapers that cater to both groups, but most media are in the middle.

No, people here vote by 'general direction'...as in they think a party is going in the right 'general direction' even if they do flub up occasionally.

For immigration:

Canada accepts more legal immigrants relative to its population than any country on Earth.

In the past two years, almost half a million immigrants arrived, a shade less than half of them in one city alone -- Toronto. The largest numbers for the country as a whole, amounting to almost 40 per cent of the total, came from China, India, Pakistan and the Philippines.

The federal government, responsible for immigration targets, heralds these waves on humanitarian and economic grounds, the argument being that immigration shows Canada as a caring country whose new arrivals will fuel future economic growth.

3. For provinces, Ontario votes Liberal consistently...
if you are thinking cities, Vancouver is very liberal as are smaller cities all over Canada.

If you go to the Canadian forum and post your question, there are Canadians there that will be glad to help answer any questions you have!
