What are brand name products with a liberal connotation?
Edited on Sun Sep-19-04 10:22 AM by billbuckhead
There are Volvo, Birkenstock, Apple, Subaru, Costco, Starbucks, AirAmerica, Mozilla, Buzzflash, Toyota Prius, SAAB, Paul Newman, and then there are the faux ones like
New York Times, Washington Post and CNN( truly rightwing psychops)

4. I wonder if a backwards boycott would work?
What if we only buy "liberal" products? What if we gave small business owners something like the Christian fish symbol to tell strangers that their dealing with liberals?
Most liberal business already do a better job at customer satisfaction and integrity than there rightwing counterparts. And what about outsourcing and the environment?

30. yes, if "working" means more billboards in Vermont
Starbucks itself is as liberal as Walmart. We can reward liberally-connoted images, thus enriching ad firms, some of which employ real liberals to design liberal iconography.

18. Last weekend in the newspaper
coupon section there was a beautifully done, subtle ad for three new Ben and Jerry's flavors with political overtones. Anyhow the ad had the word "VOTE" in big, backwards print with "Turn it Around" underneath. Clever.

27. Ben & Jerry's was acquired in 2000 by Unilever
You could barely tell unless you really look at the packaging or the financial reports area of their website. I have read some not-so-Ben&Jerry's info on the company's ethics.

If you're inclined, eat it because they make kick-ass ice cream, but I wouldn't exactly feel safe in saying they're a "liberal" company. Quite a bit moreso the opposite. Looks like they keep up a semblance to fool the public into thinking B&J are still at the helm. Meanwhile, they have a record of pollution, worker abuse & animal testing.

Just thought I'd share...

Their PhishFood uses the sales to help clean Lake Champlain in VT. They regularly travelled with Phish to help raise awareness of the environment (as well as sing an occasional song with the band).

Man, if Swishers are the official Liberal Cigar I think I'll take a pass.

Fuckin' Swishers are one of the worst cigars on the market--right up there with Phillies Blunts, El Productos and White Owls.

Get yourself a Punch or a Partagas.

6. For the same reason CNN does, they're living on their reputation
Once upon a time these news sources were left-center and they pissed off rightwingers who have never watched since and don't know that these sources are subtlely rightwing to trick lefties into gradually switching or giving up. We must assume that the crapitalists will always be trying to subvert our news sources and we will constantly have to get new ones.

11. Anything Swedish or Norweigan
I always associate with liberalism, though a. I don't know if they are, and b. I think spending too much time on scandinavian furnishings, no matter how liberal the company, is more "crapitalist" (as someone so beautifully put it) than "progressive."

So, Volkswagon? (which I know is German) IKEA?

I used to think Disney was liberal-ish, until they shut down "F911."

Lots of organic food products companies -- maybe the juice companies? Naked Juice, Odwalla. Of course, they could be simply selling me organic products and funneling the money to Rick Santorum, or something, and I would be none the wiser.

The right-wingers think MTV is liberal, but it's just consumer trash, in my opinion.
