The villiage idiot's TANG record is now a dead issue.
Thank you CBS.

Noone will touch anything remotely connected to *'s lies and distortions.

The media has been very effectively muzzled.

It's called fear, folks...

The story will disappear. Nobody will touch it. It's over.

Rove set this up very nicely.

You don't know how to roll with the punches.

The moment the opposition fights back in any way, you toss out the white flag and give up.

Is it any wonder democrats are seen as milquetoast and wimps?

17. Bullshit.
I've rolled with many punches my friend.

The fact is, CBS got set up. They went with a story that could have had enormous impact on this race.

Now they are discredited. It was a set up! All of the other media outlets are watching. They will NOT touch a * National Guard story after this.

They don't want to end up looking like CBS.

Sorry, but that's the way it is.

20. Surrender? Who said that?
I'm only saying that this story is dead.

The fact is...most people don't care about the idiot's TANG record anyway. They care about their jobs, their health insurance (or lack thereof...), they care about young American men and women getting killed in a war that was based on lies.

Now maybe. just maybe, after the media is finished with their orgasm over CBS's mistake, we can get on to the real issues.

37. This story's far from dead...
...CBS will spare no expense to nail the NeoCons after this public humiliation that does absolutely NOTHING to refute the facts. FratBoy was AWOL at best, and probably a deserter, when Americans were still dying in Vietnam.

That may not matter to YOU, but it matters to people like myself as well as hundreds of thousands of Vietnam vets. It also matters to those that have been sent to Iraq based on reasons that turned out to be nothing but a pack of lies. It certainly matters to those that have lost loved ones in a war that should NEVER have been fought.

How about this? Why don't you respond to those issues that you want to discuss and let the rest of us discuss this issue. How's that sound? Does that sound fair to you?

10. That article is great and I think it offers good cover for the CBS hype
The NYT has PAGES of proven, yet seldom covered FACTS which can be brought to any convo of the Rather fiasco. Even his facts are unasailable, according to some of the same folks who dispute the origin of the docs!

30. They'd still be declared forgeries...
even if the originals are perfectly spaced, on yellowed, 1970s 8.5"x10" paper, they'd be called fakes. The repukes would just say, "Good job, but you should have run these out first." Now, they'd just be called clever forgeries, rather that the inept forgeries that Dan Blather used. This was a great preemptive strike by Karl Rove and his joy-boy Dan Rather.

false documents were what Killian had discussed with her.

evening@cbsnews.com

Dear Dan,

Keep on the story. YOu have Killian's secretary confirming those were
Killian's words, and the holes in his record still exist. This is the most corrupt government that has existed probably ever in the United States. I'm counting on you to expose it.

Bush's actions while in the TANG are still and issue. Do not stop hammering home the fact Bush went AWOL just because one piece of evidence looks to be in question. I smell a rat (named ROVE) and when that little story is exposed we will see a quick turn around on this issue.

25. Please name one American News Organization that has credibility.
CBS did not lose credibility. They made a mistake in not double checking the memos. That is it. The story of *'s AWOL is still very true and thanks to the fiasco now everyone knows it. And, as far as CBS goes, it has proved to America that they are the single only network today willing to tell the truth. The ONLY ONE! The rest of the networks can say whatever they want, except that they have the guts needed this days to not look like a WH whore.

26. This is proof of one thing, and one thing only:
When you dare to criticize the President, you will be napalmed into silence.

That's the angle I think we should be taking here. Paul O'Neill, Joe Wilson, Richard Clarke, and now, Dan Rather. Silenced through blanket attacks and intimidation, with full cooperation by the mass media.

Be sure to bring this up to your Bush-leaning friends, because it's actually turning out to be a very effective argument, from my perspective.

35. Given what we know
1. Bush went to Alabama for an extended period during his last year in the guard.

2. The local TANG unit was trying to work with him and at the same time keep their drill attendence up.

3. They knew he was "connected" politically though Texas and the TANG were Democratically dominated at the time.

4. The secretary recalled him being discussed in the opns section.

Given all of that, the memos were "plausible". The chances for the memos to have survived thirty years is slim and none. Memos like these do not go into the individual personnel file nor do they go to Dept of the AF unless as a part of an investigation. They are normally held in indivudual (Killian and others) desk files. Since Bush became a "dead issue" to the TANG in the seventies, they would have been destroyed unless Killian was the type to keep a copy of everything he ever wrote. If they didn't come from Killian's little trove, they are "made up" documents.

This was a "fool's errand" from the beginning.

Its the economy, stupid!!!!!
