To the press: You're being rope-a-doped by WH on CBS matter
The WH is using the press again to facilitate its own ends. Using news outlets, the WH is quashing legitimate reporting, punishing a long-time Bush watcher, diverting public attention away from legitimate questions about Bush's record, and intimidating the press.

Questions:

WHY did Bartlett tacitly approve the authenticity of the Killian memos?

WHY did the WH never question the provenance of the documents?

HOW did the GOP operative "in pajamas" have enough information to question the minute details of the memos before he had seen CBS' copies of them?

The only logical explanation can be that the WH had prepared this response in advance. They knew what was coming and had already gamed it out to their best advantage.

1. naah.
Burkett has reportedly been on a mission to destroy Bush for several years. Only he knows where these documents came from. Secondly, if you were a true believer of dubya, you would question the authenticity too.

2. so........
...why wasn't the first response of the WH to question the authenticity? They didn't.

3. I didn't say the questionable memos were inaccurate.
I think it is very plausible that such discussions were going on. I haven't heard anyone argue against that either. I am sure the WH initially thought they could be real just like the rest of us.

5. How so?
They knew there was some truth in the memos so they didn't refute them.

6. Yeah, and what does that tell you about Burkett as a source...
Burkett has a big axe to grind here, so I could see him faking the memos. He probably doesnt have a source,...he's just saying that as CYA.
