Actions YOU can take to defend Democracy

With my most recent post at Anti-CNP, I have discovered that Focus on the Family and James Dobson have the trying the most in this last week alone to remove American's Rights and Freedoms. Here is what we can all do to stop them. I think Focus on the Family is a pivotal link in the Christian Right and going after them at this time might affect them in a negative way.

1. Support Proctor & Gamble - This Company has acted against Discrimination and Dobson wants to boycott them, I think we should support them as it would make Dobson's attempts in vain and Proctor & Gamble could continue the fight against Discrimination

2. Vote against the Abstinence Education Bill in MA - Focus on the Family wants people from all over the United States to call the MA Governor to support the Bill, let's not let that happen.

3. Support Jim Wallis and the Sojourners - Focus on the Family is trying to refute the Sojourners' Claims that God is not a Republican. I think they have a petition on their site, go see if you can sign it.

4. Protest 'Protect Marriage Sunday' - This Sunday, Focus on the Family and other Groups in the Christian Right will 'protect' marriage. Let's sound back, possibly with things that expose the bigotry of the Christian Right.

5. Get Educated about Focus on the Family - The Religious Freedom Coalition of the Southeast has a page about Dobson's true values here.

I am sure if we all get together and do these things, we can change things for the better.

1. Anytime a church or cleric acting in official capacity recommends or

suggests a vote against any candidate or proposition - turn them in to the IRS for violating their tax exempt restrictions on campaigning!

If you see voters' guides with choices marked for any office of proposition handed out at any church - turn them in to the IRS.

If any elected official tries to get prayer in you local public schools, make a fuss. Demand to know what other religions will be allowed the same time in public schools. Demand that every faith and form of spirituality be included or all prayer kept out of official operation of public schools.

Support your local Planned Parenthood. Call and ask if they need volunteers and what you can do to safeguard full choice for women and their doctors. If they are being picketed by anti-choice groups, ask if they need people to man their property borders and assure that protesters do not harass of intimidate clinic patients.

Go to school board meetings at your local level and observe members for activities which would be detrimental to public education. Get involved as this is critical. Democracy is under attack by means of undermining education of the people. Do not let any local officials engage in activities to enable a theocratic agenda in your schools. If you see it, make noise about it.

Keep an eye on your local newspapers. Do not let them go unchallenged if they fail to report news fairly and accurately. Do not just grumble about propaganda filled LTTE; refute them! Do not let the RW go unchallenged in any lie, half-truth or misrepresentation.

If local radio does not give fair and balanced information, complain when their license comes up for review. The airways belong to the public; you are the public; demand your voice! Contact sponsors of programming you consider to be detrimental to the process of democracy in our nation and tell them why you cannot patronize them until they stop sponsoring hate radio.

Give your neighbors courage and inspiration to join you in the defense of the Constitution. We The People are responsible for that defense just as surely as any member of our armed forces are. We The People must be vigilant. The nation will not survive if its citizens wait for 'somebody' to fix things. WE are somebody and it is our job to make it all work.
