The Democratic Guest on Crossfire Is KILLING
He is not taking any shit from the right-wing guest. Tucker said something about Kerry saying he would still go to war no matter what and the guy got right back on him, saying NO, that's NOT what he said, and then explaining that Kerry voted to strengthen the President's hand, not to go to war. "You might think that's a 'cute' distinction, Tucker, but this is foreign policy and a President is more effective in foreign-policy when he has a strong hand."

Also not letting the right-wing guest interrupt him or talk over him.

4. That's Jamie Rubin...
When he's "on" he's great. But he has dropped the ball on a few occassions over the past weeks. If he's on fire today, great!

6. Tucker Carlson speaks the TRUTH!
"BUSH is EVIL!" (his standard whine when he's losing a debate with Begala)... I think we should quote him and often!

8. Tucker's arguments are so anemic and incompetent lately
That I seriously think he's secretly switched over to our side.

9. Jamie Rubin is married to CNN's
Christiane Amanpour, its chief international reporter (and one of my favorites).

I always liked him. He comes across as a straight shooter.

I've been wondering though why she hasn't been on CNN much lately. :-( At least in the U.S. (She was covering Iraq)

10. Bravo, finally someone is
.........TELLIN' IT LIKE IT IS!!

Honest to God, I cannot understand why people DON'T GET IT. Kerry's stance (whether I agree or not) is plain to me. Why is everyone heretofore stumbling over their feet to get that across??

Today's pro Kerry commentaries have made some waves...I'm loving that and it's about time. I missed his speech but caught snippets...sounded pretty right on to me.

I'm also reveling in the "Rights" attempts to cover their tracks and continuing threats and the "blame everyone else" attacks. They are looking rather insipid just about now...

15. damned impressive ... here's why ...
Edited on Mon Sep-20-04 04:06 PM by welshTerrier2
i was beginning to wonder whether anyone speaking for Kerry could find the right strategy ...

this guy Rubin was great ...

here's what he did that was so effective:
1. bush is the issue; not Kerry ...
2. when challenged about Kerry, see rule #1
3. when lies were told about Kerry, call them lies and return to rule #1 ...

the essential argument he made in response to specifically DEFENDING Kerry's Iraq position was that Kerry did not support the invasion of Iraq, he supported giving the president, any president, the authority to do what needed to be done ... this is far short of supporting an invasion ... an analogy would be, just because you vote in favor of building a weapons system (or a more empowered president) does not mean you believe the weapons system should be used to start a war ... it's built as a precaution to be used only as a last resort ...

i hope that the strategy we saw Rubin using will become the new Democratic mantra ... bush's "stubborn incompetence" has lead us into a quagmire in Iraq ... it's killing our troops everyday ... it's damaging our prestige and credibility with the rest of the world, even our former allies ... it's increasing the numbers and power of terrorist organizations ... and it's bankrupting America ... there is no hope for success if we continue the current course ... every Democratic spokesman should ask each of these points as a question ... for example, is there anyone who believes bush has been successful in Iraq? is there anyone who believes we are not losing troops on a daily basis? is there anyone who thinks U.S. prestige is not being damaged? is there anyone who is unaware of the extreme financial burden this misguided war has placed on the U.S. economy?

the answers to these questions are answers that help Kerry ....

i believe this guy Rubin was much more effective in articulating Democratic positions ... the issue is one of strategy and style ... I must say that Rubin was the best I've seen yet of any Democrat ...

21. I would leve to see Kerry send Clarke to Iraq on a fact finding tour
Let him go over inspect the horror and come back to address the nation presenting the truth. They could both sit down with a reputable journalist and for once the truth might be heard

22. Never underestimate the ability of the media chuckleheads
It sounds like Kerry made a straightforward, forceful presentation with concrete criticisms and specific counterproposals. The text is easily accessible on his website.

But watch the media scratch their collective heads, and ponder just what in the world Kerry could possibly be talking about. Why is he saying that things in Iraq are a mess? The Bush administration says everything is just fine! And why is Kerry criticizing the president, anyway? Didn't he say that he would have voted the same way on the Iraq resolution, knowing what he knows now? Why, he must be flip-flopping!

Nope, the media mavens and pundits will wear out their puzzlers, worrying over what Kerry said and what it could possibly mean.
