Rather and Burkett caved on us...and I'm really pissed over this!
Why did Rather "fall on his sword" and do worse than most of us thought in a "Mea Culpa?" Doesn't the truth of the story about AWOL Bush still stand?

Why did they do this?

Also, see Palast's view:

This is not a story about Dan Rather. The white millionaire celebrity can defend himself without my help. This is really a story about fear, the fear that stops other reporters in the US from following the evidence about this Administration to where it leads. American news guys and news gals, practicing their smiles, adjusting their hairspray levels, bleaching their teeth and performing all the other activities that are at the heart of US TV journalism, will look to the treatment of Dan Rather and say, "Not me, babe." No questions will be asked, as Dan predicted, lest they risk necklacing and their careers as news actors burnt to death.

3. Burkett says they are not forged. Claims they are real. This takes
it out of the headlines, but leaves a nagging doubt that Bush fulfilled his duty. Also allows the news to hopefully focus on Kerry and his message. Bush will do all he can to get the memos on the headlines again.

4. Rather apologizes to Bush, so when does Bush apologize for lying
to this entire country about the "weapons of mass destruction" to get his bloody war started, and for tying Saddam to the 9-11 disaster for his justification? Why isn't he made to apologize for the lives he's caused to be taken? How can he get by without apologizing for the prison abuses, the beheadings, all directly tied to his damned war?
Our country is suffering because of George W. Bush, and he needs to apologize and tell everyone he's sorry he's been such a liar in all that he's done as president. He stinks to high heaven. Dan Rather was wrong to apologize for something that is right. It will take someone like Michael Moore to get this one straightened out too. :argh:  George W.

5. Rather caved on "us"?
Dan Rather doesn't work for the Democratic party. He got a story wrong (apparently), although the facts seem beyond dispute that Lil George disobeyed a direct order to report for his physical in 1972.

CBS messed up its story all on its own. Whether they stand by their own reporting or not does not affect the campaign by the Democratic nominee, because CBS isn't a functionary of the Democratic party.

Let me find my response to Rather's News Team's repsonse to me...

Okay...here's the text of Rather/CBS team response to me after my SECOND e-mail which was not as detailed as my first.
