Washington State DUer's HELP!
I live in upper Skagit County above Mt Vernon. If you drive up I5 you see Bush and GOP signs everywhere, not one for Kerry/Edwards. Some local candidates but few. The small town I live in is wallpapered with Bush and GOP signs. This isn't a Republican area.
Campaign Headquarters is in Mt Vernon, Skagit County Democrats. Maybe if anyone is close they could contact the headquarters and help in some way. Thanks.

1. Damn - that's a big difference from the last time I was up there in August
Sounds like we might need to do our own papering. I'll call campaign headquarters in Seattle tomorrow and see what they suggest.

3. I live on the coast
in Grays Harbor Co. and I was amazed at the amount of Kerry/Edwards signs I saw on the city street and truck routes. Lots around the new Home Depot store in Aberdeen.

4. Where are you? Edison?
I thought rural Skagit County, like Whatcom, was ridiculously rural.

5. I've been further north where it's really GOP land...
...and in a town out in the county, I've been amazed at the amount of Kerry/Edwards signs.

I guess that part of the road was freeped?

6. Lynden? what "Footloose" was based on?
seriously, it was.

I used to live in Whatcom co. and yeah, Bellingham is quite liberal, only b/c of the University, or else only the Fairhaven area would be. all the surrounding county is definitely Repugnitans. I visit my mom in Ferndale now and then and only see huge * signs and am afraid of getting my back windows shot out b/c of my stickers.

Skagit, yeah, Sedro-Wooley and Alger are a lost cause, Concrete, all those litle bergs, but on the bright side they're sparsely populated.

More people have been moving to Whatcom than ever, though, so maybe some are Dems, hopefully.

7. Raysr, help is on the way.
I'm a guy in Skagit County who has done the best I can to get the Kerry Edwards message out. To date, I've bought 6255 buttons with various messages, 4775 bumper stickers, 585 small yard signs, 8 2'x4' banners, balloons, lapel stickers, and so on. In all, over 15,000 pieces for Skagit County.

I have 100 4x8 signs coming soon (they shipped from DC on Sept 9th), and we'll have us a big old sign party--perhaps this weekend. But all of this has been tough on my credit card! Stop in at our Mount Vernon office (225-B South 1st, right across the street from the Food Co-Op, next to the Mount Vernon Cafe) and sign up for our Adopt-A-Sign program. Every forty dollars buys another one-sided yard sign for Kerry-Edwards--and we'll do the rest. While you're there, fill out a volunteer form, heck maybe you can be one of the ones helping get these things put up.

That said, I have to also point out that we already have some placed in the county--I've been spending my Sundays on this. Skagit County locations include (so far):

I-5 at Conway
I-5 at Cook Road
SR 20 near Deception Pass
SR 20 near Higgins Airport Way
Memorial Highway at Beavermarsh Road
SR 20 at the Swinomish Casino
Numerous locations in Anacortes (around twenty)
Edison (Old Oddfellow's Hall)
Near the junction of Laventure and College Way in Mount Vernon
Snee-Oosh Road in La Conner
Two locations on Reservation Road
Best Road a mile south of SR 20
Josh Wilson Road near the Moose Gun Club
Ershig Road at Llama Lane

As to whether or not Skagit County is Republican country---well it was in the 2000 election----

Al Gore and Joe Lieberman D 20410 45.17%
George W. Bush and Dick Cheney R 22153 49.02%
Harry Browne and Art Olivier L 259 0.57%
Ralph Nader and Winona LaDuke G 2069 4.58%

Rick Larsen lost by a hundred votes, and Maria Cantwell lost the county by five thousand to Skeletor (Slade Gorton)

What I'm saying is that we all need to work hard to give this county a Democratic victory in six short weeks--please stop in and see us.

8. RE: Help
I probably met you in the office kurtboy. I also called and complained about the one (Bush) on that buliding in Concrete. I really didn't realize till now how many pukes there are here. I've lived here all my life and figured the economy wouldn't support that thought process but pukes are nortorious for voting against their best interests.

9. Olympia has lots of Kerry signs
It is fairly well mixed here in Olympia between conservatives and liberals and I don't feel out of place. However I work further south where there is a significant amount of conservatives. One co-worker suggested that I hide the Kerry sign that is in the back window of my car to avoid scratches!

I am surprised and delighted to hear about the amount of Kerry signs in Grays Harbor!
