Does anyone know where Letterman stands on politics?
I always thought Letterman was more Democratic until lately.

2. I don't think he likes Bush very much.
Like many people, I'm sure he gave him the benefit of the doubt in the wake of 9/11, but Dave is quite an intelligent guy. He sees the mess Bush has gotten this country into and is worried about our future.

4. David is very loyal to the millitary, but he has always been a DEM
He said he hoped Kerry wins at the end of the interview.

5. There was a Bruhaha with Bush and that kid behind him yawning
when Bush was speaking. Think Bush's camp called Letterman and didn't like the jokes..I think Letterman actually changed then...not sure...

18. Here's what happened.
Letterman showed the clip of the kid yawning, etc., during *'s speech.

CNN gets wind of it and THEY show a clip of Letterman's show with the clip of the kid.

Next thing you know, CNN is backtracking, saying that the White House called them and said that the Letterman show faked the clip - that the kid WASN'T EVEN THERE and that the Letterman show put the kid in the clip to make * look bad.

(Like anyone would have to DO something to make that happen. lol)

Letterman hears this and gets quite mad. On the show he tells us that the clip is REAL, the kid WAS there and that the WHITE HOUSE IS LYING!

Next thing you know, CNN is backtracking again, only THIS time they are saying that the White House DIDN'T call them...ooops...it was a mistake on the part of a producer, blah blah blah...just make sure you get this...the WHITE HOUSE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT.

Uh huh. No one BUT the White House could have made CNN tell the public that Letterman faked the clip.

I do believe this went on for the better part of a week. Letterman kept calling the White House liars (hey, he calls em' as they are) and to top it all off, Letterman had the kid on the show, to prove it was in fact, real.

So pbftttttttt on the White House!

I love Dave.

8. Before 9/11....
....Letterman thought Bush was a twit. In the aftermath of 9/11 he softened his tone and supported the President, but more importantly he was an ardent supporter of the U.S. Armed Forces as they went into Afghanistan. He only recently has been able to separate the poser from those who serve.

11. That was at the time of the last election. Letterman played the
tape many times on his show. It was very weird on Bush's part.

12. Unaffiliated, but he hates Bush
Dave went after Bush hard in 2000, especially after a disastrous satellite interview with him (Letterman: "How do you look so youthful and rested?" Bush: "Fake it." Letterman: "And that's pretty much how you're going to run the country?")

He tended to go easy on Bush after 9/11, as was the trend at the time, but as the goodwill eroded, Dave's antipathy for Bush won out, and he's been putting the boot into W semi-regularly for the past couple of years.

Also, Dave responded on-air to a 2000 New York Times Magazine article in which one of his former staff writers characterized him as a "nonvoting Republican"; Dave furiously declaimed that he was a registered independent (going so far as to call the registrar in New Canaan, CT to verify it), and said that he had first voted in 1968, when "we had an ugly, awful war going on... not an election about who's banging interns."

14. Letterman is a democrat and supporter of organized labor
on the very first show from the newly renovated Ed Sullivan Theatre, he had all the union construction workers come out and recognized all the international unions. He made a very big deal about the fact that the work was done with union labor.

15. He praised Clinton last week when he was on...
Edited on Tue Sep-21-04 12:13 AM by steely
Clinton was good on the show -it was a tape back from when Clintons' book first came out - (old news?) When Dave introduced him, he heaped praise on Clinton as one of the best presidents. Clinton didn't seem too warm toward Dave, and made mention of Dave's jokes against him (lightheartedly), but Dave did seem to respect him - He did not however, introduce him as President that I recall, whihc I thought odd
