If anyone can recall last year there was a gigantic controversy in the UK over the suicide of British weapons expert David Kelly. He had been exposed as the source of a BBC report that the Blair government "sexed up" some reports making the case for the Iraq war.

After an investigation by Lord Hutton, which was denounced as a whitewash by many in the media, director-general Greg Dyke and board chairman Gavyn Davies both resigned from the BBC.

From a CNN story I looked at:

"The BBC's original story said a government statement that Iraq could deploy weapons of mass destruction within 45 minutes was based on false intelligence that officials knew was unreliable.

Blair's government denied the report and demanded a retraction, sparking a bitter dispute.

Critics accused the government and Blair of thrusting Kelly into the media spotlight, thereby contributing to his death."

I don't know if anyone here has noticed that someone in the Bush White House decided to pull a dirty tricks ploy in the same vein to distract from the continuing Bushco fiasco in Iraq...

Opinions?

1. Not only do I remember it....but I speculated on another thread about
the BBC World report on PBS, specifically tonight's that was so negative about Kerry, that they've "changed their tune." They are under pressure (that's a fact), face a reorganization, etc. etc.

Listening to the World Service on shortwave, I don't get that strong a feeling that they've been pressured too much there, although I've heard that Kerry voted "for the war" repeated by some show hosts...It really is very glaring, esp. when you hear some of the guests really bashing US policy in Iraq like you would never hear in our media...
