Funny, innit, the way the media suddenly grew a "conscience."
When it comes to roasting their own in the spitfire of hell (it's Dan Rather's turn, playing the role of Jayson Blair), they're all about integrity and ethics and journalism school.

They remain absent when it comes to their pack-mule mentality in the lead-up to war with Iraq, and their collective behavior every day since. Hands clean. Nothing to see here, no talk of "integrity" save for lame "We're Really Sorry, Seriously, We Mean It" editorials from the New York Times and Washington Post that nobody ever read.

We knew it all along, which is why I get so pissed at myself for being surprised at their blatant hypocrisy at every possible turn in the last four years.

Maybe rock-n-roll can save us all, because the media sure isn't going to.

3. Oh, God. Was Dead Intern Joe gleefully counting his chickens?
God, I hope so.

The sweetest victory of all will be proving the Bush-adoring media wrong on their "read" of the "mood" of the "electorate."

4. I honestly think that rather than being angry at what
is being done to one of their own by the RW fanatics we
have in power right now, the media is afraid that now if they
make a mis-step themselves, the RW fanatics will have at them
the same way they're now salivating over Rather.

:hi:

5. Oh, shit!! An optimistic angle!!!

Thanks for that, kaity. Me, I'm just pissed and angry and irritable.

I want to be optimistic, but the realist in me says they've been wanting to pile onto Rather since the "What's The Frequency, Kenneth" controversy waned.

I don't trust 'em. Want to... can't.

6. You're welcome. I think.

"What's the Frequency, Kenneth?" The REM song? Is there
a story behind that? I must have missed it. (Google is
my friend.)

I'm not sure if I'm optimistic necessary. I just know that
the media have spine of jellyfish and are pack animals to the
nth degree. The cynic in me says they are so disconnected from
the reality of paying bills and worrying about money that they
have no way of connecting to what's really going on out here.

It's hard for me to be mad anymore. I just have to believe
that my four year NIGHTMARE is about 45 days from being
over, and that the Democrats have fielded a candidate that can
win this damn thing.

:)

7. Well, yeh. When's the last time Daryn Kagan worried about...
... paying the mortgage on time?

They're all disconnected, and exist in a vacuum/bubble. Alexandria Pelosi's documentary "Journeys with George" comes to mind, when trying to imagine the media's mindset.

10. No, all she has to worry about is the
double bag over (Limpballs) face when she has to
pretend to enjoy herself. Eww.

Anyway, I should check out that documentary. I have
a lot of catching up to do, but now that I have a
DVD player. . .

12. Oh... here's the story about the R.E.M. song
Edited on Tue Sep-21-04 11:54 AM by VolcanoJen
In 1986 or so, Dan Rather was walking in Manhattan when he was mugged and beaten. Telling the story the next day, Rather said his assailant kept repeating, "What's the frequency, Kenneth?" as he beat Rather.

Nobody really knows what the assailant meant; maybe he was a spy who had the wrong guy; maybe he was just nuts. But for years, right-wing-media-types have felt that Rather made the whole thing up.

Michael Stipe wrote a song about the incident years later, and the rest is history. :-)

ON EDIT: I just looked up this old story, and found this tidbit:

In 1997, based on a tip from a psychiatrist, Rather's attacker was identified as William Tager. According to the psychiatrist, Tager, who was currently serving time for killing an NBC stagehand, blamed news media for beaming signals into his head, and thought if he could just find out the correct frequency, he could block those signals that were constantly assailing him. Hence the enigmatic inquiry.

9. What is so great
about being in the media that a person would allow themself to abandon there scruples? Do you think that they feel they can't do anything else to make a living? Could it be they are lazy? Are they afraid? I think all of that is true. Edward R Murrow would be ashamed of what has become of his profession. We the public need to shun them, especially after the election.

11. Rather broke the unspoken American media rule...
...about reporting a negative Bush* story more than once. Most of the other networks have aired stories that don't look good for Bush*...but the only reason they do it is to turn it around FOR him and put a positive spin on it.

- The media helped install Bush* in 2000 and promoted his war. They're not going to abandon him before November and tell the truth about his past and present.

13. Oh, where to begin?
Niger. WMDs. Osama/Saddam connection.
Valerie Plame.
Halliburton. Enron.

When the media is able to report on these issues honestly, then they can talk about integrity. Until then, they have none.
