The CBS Issue
I do not think CBS should have used the documents in that there was so much evidence that proved that Bush did not perform his duties properly. However, I think CBS should have just stood by their story. I do not think they should have apologized. They should have just continued to point out that the facts of the story are true and that everyone who examined Bush's military record has come to the conclusion that he did not perform his duties properly.

1. CBS doesn't operate like the Republican party.
Even if the documents reflect the honest-to-God truth, it was wrong to use them if they weren't the originals. Truth does matter in the news (which is why ALL people should be alarmed about Faux News & other corporate-owned news who varnish or omit the truths).

The only thing done wrong in this case, imo, is that CBS should have investigated more before going through with the story.

6. I'm on CBS's side. They were duped, & under the circumstances,
they handled the aftermath to my satisfaction. The Repugs need to get over it -- it was their doing in the first place.

2. CBS acted not only properly but honorably in apologizing and taking
responsibility for their actions. Would that Bush's administration would do the same thing.

4. CBS has hurt the Kerry campaign with this
and so did Joe Lockhart and Bill Burkett. Just my honest opinion.

5. How did Joe Lockhart hurt the Kerry campaign?
Who indicted, tried, and convicted him of complicity in this? Want to perpetuate the new Media meme?

7. I thought he admitted the Kerry campaign contacted
Bill Burkett about how to respond to the Swift Boat vets? Correct me if I'm wrong please. I'm just sick of hearing the pubs pound CBS and this issue into the ground. I want to move on. Although I was glad when the documents originally came out, I wish it would've never happened. Just my opinion.

11. Take a look at this transcript...
It's an interview between Bill Hemmer (CNN) and Joe Lockhart.

Look at the sixth header down the page called "How It's Done".

http://atrios.blogspot.com/

Hemmer tries to clean Joe's clock, but Hemmer ends up with his gears ground down. These Wingers will go to any length to try to discredit and spread garbage on Kerry. I didn't mean to appear rude in my response to you, but I am sick of hearing all the Rethug talking points too.

8. The Truth Can't Hurt
CBS has put this in a spotlight, regardless of the question of authenticity of the doc's.
We all know that Bu$h*t was AWOL, and that will be amplified as time goes on. And as Rather stated last night there will be an on going investigation. Which may uncover discrepancies in this current story, but may well expose FACT that the Commander and Chimp is a deserter! I see it as an attribute not a negative for our next president, John Kerry.

this negates everything about the AWOL story. The substance of the story is being ignored.

10. They should have used the documents - and said they MAY have been
... 'reproductions' from an unknown source.
