Edited on Tue Sep-21-04 10:21 AM by glarius
He has been talking for a long time and not one smattering of applause!....This is unprecedented, I would think!

6. CSPAN panned around occasionally
Delegates looking grumpy - many with arms folded. Don't forget, * is used to these canned campaign events where you have to sign a loyalty oath to get it. Must be quite a shock for the little weasel to be in front of a real audience.

Sorry..didn't mean to defame the members of the genus weasel..

10. Good point...
They probably taped the speech at 3:00 a.m. when nobody was there. If the camera panned to the room, all we'd see is a janitor pushing a broom. If there was an actual audience, they'd *all* be pounding their shoes on the desks.

20. Absolutely. There were "applause pauses"
and there was nothing forthcoming.

9. This reminds me of an old SNL skit.
Tim Meadows was playing Alan Keyes, and he had a tape player to play applause since there was no audience. It was pretty funny, especially when the janitor had to ask him to leave so he could clean up.

Maybe Bush just forgot the batteries...

Leaders from around the globe hate this bastard with a passion. They aren't going to show him any respect at all. Who can blame them? I have no respect for him either.

it makes them feel more moral to be hated....as in ...if france hates us obviously we are doing something right...righteous indignation is a strange thing.

19. I believe it's UN protocol to NOT clap or interrupt a speech but to
clap/applause at the end only. It does sound from the descriptions that bush* still read his speech with applause lines forgetting they don't do that.

I was hoping bush* was at a campaign stop getting no applause, but this isn't a big deal unfortunately.

However the poster that said it was the lightest/shortest they've heard is encouraging!

I seem to remember applause during UN speeches.

29. Oh, I'm not saying it's adhered to 100%, but I wouldn't count a lack
of applause at the UN as a *big* deal. I hoped he would have actually been booed, but I didn't expect it.

23. What is the sound of
one hand clapping... cuz that is what he heard... what a sweet sound it was.....

What was the sound of one man flapping... accusing others of doing exactly what he has done.....

what is the sound of smart bombs dropping... a noise that drowns out sane thought and reasonable hope.....

what is the sound of the whole world thinking.... that YOU have created a deadly and ridiculous quagmire, have ignored your own military leaders... snubbed our allies, ignored the best advice from some of the brightest people we have... yes you and you alone have done the unthinkable, you have followed your own folly into the desertland of tomorrow.

Where you go from here is a fools best guess.

25. And as I sit here I wonder
if his idea of "democratic reform" ( cough* sputter* Choke.....) all over the globe will be brought to the United States one day.

Seriously, some of you photo-shop Kings and Queens should dissect the speech and place each freaking bold-faced lie next to a picture of America committing the atrocities he claims to abhor.

Remember whenever Clinton would speak to the UN? Applause throughout his speech and standing ovations.
