I just got a call from the Cleveland Plain Dealer. They are considering publishing my letter to the ED. It all started last Friday They ask a question and want people to email their answers.
The question was; Should a candidates military service matter? Most were from freeps, you "Who cares let the best man do the job."
But one really got me angry it was from an ahearley and then his email address, I didn't know if legally I could send him an email but it is a good thing I didn't I was so angry I would have called him for a duel. His reply was"Anyone dumb enough to go fight in the Johnson/nixon/McNamara fiasco is to dumb to be president."
I saw red,I stewed on it over the letting it get to me. My wife was concerned because I was yelling at a TV show.
On Monday I emailed my letter to the ed.I remember everything I said But I told him that we were brought up by the greatest generation. And my Father who was in late WWII and Korea taught me Love of country and Family. And when my draft papers came I did what any Patriot would do. I joined the Marines.And went off to Viet Nam.
And his kind spit on us ,called us names,and tried to fiscally hurt us.I saw a Marine at O'Hare airport,waiting with his family waiting to go Home and some guy came out of no nowhere and sucker punched him. How do I know this I was there in my wheelchair waiting for a flight Home. # months before that I got the million dollar wound,# mortars got peppered my body with shrapnel and broke both my legs.Ya I got purple Heart But yo people don't think we deserved that. No Mr. ahearley that wasn't dumb, That was Patriotism. David A. Dennis USMC RET.
