Philips home defibrillator?
Holy shit. I just saw a commercial advertising a home defibrillator. Anyone else find that kind of creepy?

What's next? A do-it-yourself surgery kit?

2. Actually, I think it's a great idea!

If someone has a history of heart disease, this machine can save their life if they've gone into a bad rhythm (like ventricular fibrillation) or have arrested. The machine does the ECG work and gives pictorial and verbal instructions so you don't cardiovert someone with normal sinus rhythm.

Sometimes, EMS takes too long to get there. Of course, you can't do this on yourself, so if you live alone, this wouldn't likely be worth it!

3. Sure this seems funny,
but it's really a good thing - these things save lives & are safe & easy to use.

4. I agree that they might be a good idea in certain circumstances,
but I have to think they could be pretty dangerous in the wrong hands (i.e. kids.)

Good idea? Probably, but weird...

5. Any object can be pretty dangerous in the wrong hands...
it's not limited to home defibrilators.

6. Yes, but there is quite a difference between say a basketball
and a machine designed to deliver a potentially fatal shock.

A probability of danger should be assigned with common sense.

7. The machine monitors heart rhythm & won't shock unless it detects....
a shockable arrythmia. You hear it say "analyzing" and "shock advised" and it won't arm unless it advises a shock.

9. man i thought it was a bad idea
until you pointed out this unmistakable, 100% foolproof system these machines have to prevent rove-esque abuses.
