Clinton's hospital stay revealed tender Hillary, tense doctors

NEW YORK - Far from the world's prying eyes, a devoted and tender Hillary Clinton rarely left her husband Bill's side before, during and after his heart surgery.

She held his hand, stroked his face and whispered lovingly into his ear. She listened with concern to every medical discussion about what he would be facing.

"It was obvious they had a very deep affection for one another," said Dr. Allan Stewart, a member of the three-person cardiac surgical dream team headed by Dr. Craig Smith.

"She would whisper things that only he could hear. She didn't leave his side. She held his hand. It was very moving to see."

Another staffer who observed them during the hospital ordeal noted: "He was happier and more at ease when she was next to him."

I applaud Hillary. My husband had the same surgery about 11 years ago, and although I love him very much, the dr's couldn't have said the same thing about me. It's a very long operation, and a long recovery. To be that attentive for that long is a strong statement about their love for each other.

6. Some observations about Hillary Clinton

My brother and I were "psycho-analyzing" the Clinton haters last week and I said this about Hillary: "It's as if she is now untouchable. After all the crap she was put through, she came out of it like trial by fire. When I see Hillary now I see someone who is totally unflappable, and she seems to have this Zen-quality about her now." My bro said: "Bingo, Zen is definitely the right word.She operates on a completely different level now."

She just blows me away, what staying power.
