Yusuf Islam, (Cat Stevens)denied admission to U.S. on ¡®security grounds¡¯
Edited on Wed Sep-22-04 07:47 AM by rpannier
This is just too funny. Cat Stevens, now known as Yusuf Islam was denied entry because he is on a name watch list by the US government. What I find so amusing is that Mr. Islam's claim to fame is:

1) A peace advocate.
2) He founded an Islamic school in the UK which is recognized by the British Government and receives funding from said government.
3) Mr. Islam loudly denounced the 9/11 attacks as a crime against all people.
4)He denounced the school taking and murder of children in Beslan, Russia.

Yep. Sounds like a real threat to National Security to me.
God, what a F**Ked up government we have. Thank God, I work and live in Korea right now.

1. Wha...?
A "peace advocate"??? If he's a "piece advocate", I understand why they stopped him.

5. Didn't he support the Ayatollah Khomenie
in Iran in the 80's?

So all sorts of people come into the US, Saudis, Yemenis, etc but an American get booted out of the country? Figures.

7. Bush's "war on terror" : Bin Laden free, but we caught Cat Stevens
I hope some columnist writes a column saying :

Bush's "war on terror" : Bin Laden still free, but we caught Cat Stevens.

10. He vociferously advocated the fatwa
that called on the faithful to kill Salman Rushdie. He may be a peace advocate now, but his past may be following him around. I certainly don't trust him.

12. "vociferously"?!
if by 'vociferous', you mean 'passively and on impersonally-technical grounds', that would be a true statement..

13. Nope, I saw him on the news

CNN, back in the good old days. He was speaking intensely and passionately about it. Nothing 'passive' or 'technical' about it. Straight from the horse's mouth.

But you don't need to take my word for it. Read all about it at:

14. I remember him supporting the death threat against Rushdie...
and thought to myself "what an ass, allying yourself with fundamentalist idiots"

and now it comes back to him. Not that I'm saying that he's any kind of threat, but actions do have consequences.

18. They're claiming new info :
'New info' led to Cat Stevens' deportation

http://washingtontimes.com/upi-breaking/20040923-125929-2576r.htm

<snip>

"Islam -- who was, Ridge said, "one of my favorite artists," -- had visited the United States as recently as May. But a U.S. government official, who asked not to be identified, told United Press International that "more recent information... (gained) within the past two months," had led authorities to place him on a "no fly" list."

19. I liked Jon Stewart's comment, isn't the watch list supposed to

keep terrorists from getting on the plane?

But seriously, I have trouble envisioning Cat Stevens as an Enemy of the State.

Now I've been crying lately, thinking about the world as it is
Why must we go on hating, why can't we live in bliss

Cause out on the edge of darkness, there rides a peace train
Oh peace train take this country, come take me home again
