Richard Clarke to Jon Stewart "The people we are now killing in Iraq
Have no WMDs,they are not Baathists, they posed no threat to America before the war. What are we doing?"

Indeed.

1. I have asked several repug friends and family this very
question. We ousted Saddam and that was a good thing, but what the Hell are we doing now? We are killing the very people we fought so hard to liberate so all we have now is confusion. Stupid.

9. Do I dare suggest that perhaps we will end up killing
Edited on Wed Sep-22-04 02:29 PM by Carla in Ca
as many as he did? There is a post today that suggests there were no mass graves, as * reported. Jeez.

on edit: Rumsfeld said last week that the violence will end when Iraqis get tired of being killed..what a way to run a war.

2. Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose
That was what I was thinking when Stewart asked "But we liberated them!"

3. That is a very good question
Just who are the people we are now killing in Iraq and why are we killing them. Do we really believe that they are forming an army to invade Virginia or Texas? These are common people who never harmed any American or ever had any intention to do so. Why are we killing them? They never heard of Al Qaeda and certainly don't have any WMDs. Why are we killing them?

5. on a thread that just got locked
before I had a chance to respond. Someone was saying that we here celebrate and encourage the failure of our military in Iraq.

Of course we do not.

But I was reminded of what Richard Clarke said last eve on the Daily Show. He said, "they (the military) should just stop doing stupid things (re: atttacking Falluja, retreating from Falluja)." He said that the military didn't want to do it. Washington demanded it.

He's really so clear and cogent on these matters. Hope to hear more from him.

6. It's like ridding athlete's foot by stabbing your foot over and over..
..then being proud a corn was cut off.

And, for some reason it seems to hurt more. Imagine.

11. Quite a number of us have learned
And we were in the streets, screaming at the administration not to invade Iraq or bomb Afghanistan. We knew what was going to come of it, and we knew that those rosy scenarios being spun out were just so much eyewash.

And the fucking whores in the media (pardon my French) just went along with it like none of them had ever seen a shot fired in anger or watched a kid hit another kid back. It's almost instinctual in the race, it's so primal.

14. I know, I should have been more specific!
I was thinking of the Vietnam War protests,
(I was active back then too) and the Peter, Paul and Mary song was running through my head. We sang it at the vigil last week honoring the soldiers who have died in another unjust war. I have the same anger you do, believe me.

Where have all the flowers gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the flowers gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the flowers gone?
Girls have picked them every one
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Where have all the young girls gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the young girls gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the young girls gone?
Taken husbands every one
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Where have all the young men gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the young men gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the young men gone?
Gone for soldiers every one
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Where have all the soldiers gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the soldiers gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the soldiers gone?
Gone to graveyards every one
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Where have all the graveyards gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the graveyards gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the graveyards gone?
Covered with flowers every one
When will we ever learn?
When will we ever learn?

10. That question really struck the heart of the matter
But can we convince half of America to stop thinking in terms of 'evildoers' and 'they hate us for our freedom?'
