My Nominee for Conservative Idiot #1: Dennis Hastert
House Speaker Dennis Hastert asserts that al Qaeda leaders want Sen. John Kerry to beat President Bush in November.

Yeah right. Cuz, Al Qaeda is doing so poorly now. I mean their money is drying up, their membership is down, Iraq is practically a self-sufficient country, terrorism the world over is down and most of the world loves the United States.

Hastert must have just gotten back from Fantasy Island.

1. The truth doesn't matter.
They just want to scare the shit out of anyone who was considering voting for Kerry.

2. the problem is
choosing just ten every week. They should expand the list to a more reasonable 100 or 200 high-profile conservative idiots every week. (not counting the millions of idiots who think they're conservative.)

3. Hastert trying hard to be relevant and following
Delay's lead--that is, if you want respect in the republican party, be a complete and total demogogic asshole.

4. Over the Edge?
I'm wondering if Hastert has just finally lost whatever mind he had. First he irritates George Soros by accusing him of getting his money from illegal drug sources. And now, he says this! In addition, he seems to be taking lessons from Beloved Cheerleader in the art of never apologizing. How rich is Hastert anyway? Can he really afford to be such a horse's patootie? And, for g-d's sake, how dumb can he be to tick off powerful people while having no genuine back-up. He must know that the Gruesome Old Party will cut him off at the knees when he becomes an embarrassment or liability.

5. Hasert the Sock Puppet
Does anyone really believe that Hastert thought this up himself. This is a man who owes his speakership to Tom Delay. This is the same man who said George Soro's is a drug dealer. The problem is that no one challenges Hastert on his statements and then the media just takes it as fact.
