Please tell me she didn't say this...
"Clothing is wonderful, but let them go naked for a while, at least the kids," said Heinz Kerry, the wife of Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry. "Water is necessary, and then generators, and then food, and then clothes."

http://www.usatoday.com/news/politicselections/nation/president/2004-09-15-heinz-kerry_x.htm?POE=NEWISVA

does anyone know if this was taken out of context or what...?

1. She was expressing
priority needs which are more life and death issues for the poor hit hard by these storms.

2. Aw so what. She was just saying clothes are least of their worries.
Get them what they need to survive. Can tell she isn't from USA.

4. Naked won't kill you. Dehydration will.
She has a bizarre way of phrasing things, but that's one of the things I like about her.

5. I don't see what the problem is.
Unless the weather is freezing, I'd rather have food and water before clothes too.

6. I know...
I realize that water and food are more important...I'm not faulting her at all for saying this...but I have seen some righties using this already this morning...I was wondering if there was more to what she said then just that...the article states that she was speaking French...so I was wondering if it was taken out of context or is someone translated it wrong...

Watch...the righties are going to milk this one for sure...

7. It's much ado about nothing.
In other countries and warmer climes, small children do not wear much in the way of clothing. You see them running around, often barefoot with only a tee shirt. "Righties" are unable and unwilling to comprehend cultures found outside their own narrow experience.

14. Baby in just a diaper is SHOCKING!
It's true. We have become a society which expects babys to wear clothes all the time.

Our radio person even comment about their baby had to go in just it's diaper because of the heat and how shocking that was. Can tell by his tone he didn't understand why it was shocking.. LOL! But that someone thought it was shocking.

We now livin in A/C envirment and kids must wear clothes to stay warm. In hot areas, no A/C and children having to be held, that raises their body heat even more. The child isn't use to it and can't just jump in a pool and cool off. Nore are they willing to just sit quietly in a shade.

10. They milk everything anyway...
and if there's nothing to milk, they just make it up.

So, I don't worry about it.

I'm starting to think that if the citizenry is so lacking in critical thinking that they fall for the wingnut bullshit, well, then let them have Shrub for four more years.

Another four years just might complete the job of destroying the world as we know it, and they'll never admit it was themselves who brought it on, but what the hell...

Maybe it's time to start from scratch again.

(How big is a cubit?)

12. I don't understand why this would upset anyone. Water is
critical for life - clothing is more optional. I think what happens at disaster sites is lots of well-meaning people clean out their closets and send used clothes. What is really needed is money to buy clean water, generators, and food.

13. Also, people tend to send useless things to disaster sites
– winter clothing and blankets to the tropics, and cans of stuff like beef stew and Campbell's soup to rice-eating cultures.
