All Hands.....Must Read Insider info
Hello all,

This Friday we had an all hands meeting in our spaces. There our CO was babbling on about something going on with our current operation in Iraqi Freedom (I have to spare details due to security). Anyway, he went into a different realm of things explaining "things will be getting bumpy soon".I found myself wondering what he meant, and Today, sadly I found out. On my desk when I got in from Lunch was a template to fill out a will.

I was dumbfounded...a 19 year old with just a tv and a computer in his room having to fill out a will? I immediately started questioning my chain. This is the answer I recieved:

" The United States Navy is downsizing to the point, to where at any time we might have to send you to a ship." I reply "XO, I have friends on boats, and they didn't have to fill out a will" XO Replies "CNO(Chief of Naval Operations)Mandatory...read the fine print, Petty Officer." I reply "Thanks a lot ma'am".

Ok, let me get this straight. They are making me fill out a will because the Navy is downsizing, and due to programs such as Blue to Green, the Navy is getting smaller and smaller, but the Army and Marine Corps are getting larger and larger. I am thoroughly convinced that they will be whipping every man in the current military into combat-readiness for another conflict. This implies only one thing...War with Iran, and it will be fought with every current resource we have, thus inducing the draft.

Just something to munch on

2. Everyone fills out beneficiary info when they enlist
...so this "new" will doesn't make much sense to me

Welcome to DU. We have several new military members :hi:

4. I know I had to put a beneficiary for my life insurance, but a will?
???

I don't remember being REQUIRED to fill out a will while I was in, and I definitely went places where you could get killed. I know they stuck me with a whole bunch of needles right before a couple of deployments, but I don't rememebr a will.

Real 100% Legal Documented Wills.
Our Legalmen are working fervantly as we speak trying to process all of these things.

The Life Insurance and Benes are filled out upon arrival at basic training, and is not mandatory. This is totally mandatory and being done w/o questioning.

9. I helped my daughter fill out Navy docs for beneficiaries
when she enlisted. It was required months before training was to begin.

There have been insurance scams perpetrated on the military. Could that be what's going on now?

I don't know why the military would waste time, paper or brain cells, as well as risk exposure of any additional death knell at this point.

Telegraphing impending death doesn't sound like a very good morale stategy. I just read an article about another branch that demonstrates that morale should definitely be a consideration:

24. Everyone on orders for Vietnam was 'encouraged' to make a will.
Edited on Sun Sep-19-04 11:00 AM by TahitiNut
It was part and parcel of the 'process' ... just like "in-country training" where we were taught about boobytraps, superficial culture, and other topics. I remember the 'class" conducted by a JAG officer where such legal matters were addressed.

12. It only makes sense in the context of updating the file of every...
...serviceperson prior to that serviceperson being sent on a military operation which could result in death.

I complied with a similar request in 1980, for the exact same reasons. Ironically enough, the target back then was Iran, and the operation was code-named "Gallant Knight". Thankfully IMHO, Carter cancelled the operation before it could be initiated.

Bush is fixated on his "war president" election influence-- he just needs a bit more war to set things right in November. Get ready for WW III. This time we are the aggressors.

17. ET Rate is hard to come by these days,
Not only that, Hard to advance in also. The AG rate is taking a huge cut, due to NOAA taking over our duties in the states, and European countries not wanting us here anymore. We'll probaly be a shipboard rate in the next 10 years.

21. Yeah, everythings looking dim for all the Navy
We're getting more compressed and there are also longer retention rates amongst the E-7's and above. The Navy is also shifting to an Officer heavy institution. Scary thought to have all khaki running around!

27. too many chiefs (no pun intended) and most of them ignorant ...
of what it actually takes to make a ship fight.

:eyes:

If it wasn't for Navy enlisted, the ships would have cobwebs between them and the pier. I wasn't real high on lifers or officers. My Navy was still in the Viet Nam state of mind where the officers stayed off the weather decks at night.

18. That's the point, Gin
The Blue to Green program urges sailors and airmen that are reaching their detachment date to cross over into the Army. It's a huge shift in numbers, and the sad part is, it's actually working. If the numbers are to thin to wage a 3 front war, the draft will begin, so as I suspect. I'm trying to think like a red, and when I do that, I'm like Nosterdamus.

23. If worse comes to worse....
I will not Cower out. I'm willing to die for my beliefs and your beliefs, and not because I'm brainwashed, because It's my job that I chose. It might sound like a waste, but if I die, I'll make sure I die a martyr for America and all it stands for.

32. I respect your loyalty to our country, and the oaths you took
The problem is that I question whether you would die for "my beliefs and your beliefs" or for "America and all it stands for" but more likely as another pawn in the BFEEs plan to raid the US treasury and create an Imperial America.

Sometimes the bravest action can be to go against the powers that be. I do not think that the men who went to Canada during Vietnam were cowards. It takes a lot of courage to sacrifice everything and everyplace one has known to start a new life in keeping with ones strongest beliefs.

Best wishes, and stay safe no matter your choice. My heart is with you and the other troops being used by this illicit administration.

30. Military Bylaws, Brother
That's just a rumor, we have to still have minds in college working on new technology to help defeat whatever the hell we're fighting. There is a clause that states you will have a higher number once out, and might be drafted into the officer corps. I will look into it more in depth and write an article for DU. Maybe it'll get published.
