Chomsky on Iraq.
http://www.zmag.org/content/showarticle.cfm?SectionID=40&ItemID=6241

A good overview/broad picture of what whim-of-a-hat BaBushka's fresh hell is about. thankyou, Noam. You are my first and best teacher in these matters of gravity.
===

As predicted, the war increased the threat of terror. Middle East expert Fawaz Gerges found it "simply unbelievable how the war has revived the appeal of a global jihadi Islam that was in real decline after 9-11."

anip

With all the vacillations of policy since the current incumbents first took office in 1981, one guiding principle remains stable: the Iraqi people must not rule Iraq.

snip

US analysts estimate that Russian military expenditures have tripled during the Bush-Putin years, in large measure a predicted reaction to the Bush administration's militancy and aggressiveness.

snip

The Israeli press adds that the US is providing the Israeli air force with "`special' weaponry." There can be little doubt that Iranian and other intelligence services are watching closely and perhaps giving a worst-case analysis: that these may be nuclear weapons. The leaks and dispatch of the aircraft may be intended to rattle the Iranian leadership, perhaps to provoke some action that can be used as a pretext for an attack.

2. Just started the article, some comments
Great point right off the bat. Something I've been thinking about using in a discussion for a while, is what country doesn't fall under bush's defenition of someone we need to attack right now. The way I thought about it was asking, what country couldn't Bush convince the public that we should attack. I don't think there is any. If its repeated enough that they are a threat, we will go along. Evidence isn't needed, just innuendo and nationalism.

6. yes, the freepers Despise him.
they go ballistic at the mention of his name. lol.
some go so far as to say that if noam is making money (gasp!) from his books, this shows that he doesn't care about anything but money otherwise he'd give his books away.

I then ask if David Frum and Dickhead Perles (etc.) gave Their book away.... then I get that forum cricket sound...

7. I wish everyone in this country
would watch his documentary on propaganda, including many here. The polls are misleading and people need to stop panicking each time a new one comes out.

10. a noammmmmmmm (yes, I chant his name) book called
something like: Propaganda and the Media Mind (jeeze I forget, ain't that awful, I even dogpiled amazon.com to get the right title and it's not listed there, argh) was the Eye Opener for me. Changed my way of thinking and re-educated me from decades of pap/prop news. I guess I was a freeper lite before that.

The real Nicaragua story was what hit me the hardest. The Raygun lies and deceit, the PNACer hatchlings and mass murderers he had on staff like the vile pieces of catshit Negroponte, Abrams...

Nicaragua was not communist, but socialist (funny how south of the equator that's considered a 'virus' by TPTB but us Norde socialist-like countries are safe, for now. How Raygun brayed about the threat of the Nics... Truth was, and is, that brown people that have good health and education programs are a threat to the Corporation of the United States. Can't have them get all uppity and decide their own fates and use their own resources for their wellbeing.

What gave Raygoon the opportunity to call Nicaragua communist was this: See, when the U Ass of A invades a country, defending your own airspace with military jets is a no no (like the no fly zone in Iraq). Nic was shopping around for defense and got the kabosh was the regular market, thanks to US influence and threat, so their last measure was to get the machinery was the Soviets. Voila! so now they are Dirty Commies ready to fly into American airspace! Hide your children!

Iraq is a replay of Nicaragua but with a much more deadly menacing agenda.

Another thing that made my eyeballs pop out was Noams point about 'Apache' helicopters sold to the IDF - using the name of a people that were agended for genocide. He made a comparative of naming such a death machine 'Jew' that the Palestinians would use and how That one would fly in world opinion.

11. Yes, Nicaragua was an eye opener for me too.
He has another great book, "Understanding Power" that I use as a reference all the time.

Unfortunately, we are still dealing with the same people and until that changes, I don't know how this country will survive.

12. a bit off top, but not... song lyrics.
What the PNACers thunk after the wall came down and there be no big enemy....

LEONARD COHEN lyrics - "The Future"

Give me back my broken night
my mirrored room, my secret life
it's lonely here,
there's no one left to torture
Give me absolute control
over every living soul
And lie beside me, baby,
that's an order!
Give me crack and anal sex
Take the only tree that's left
and stuff it up the hole
in your culture
Give me back the Berlin wall
give me Stalin and St Paul
I've seen the future, brother:
it is murder.

Things are going to slide, slide in all directions
Won't be nothing
Nothing you can measure anymore
The blizzard, the blizzard of the world
has crossed the threshold
and it has overturned
the order of the soul
When they said REPENT REPENT
I wonder what they meant
When they said REPENT REPENT
I wonder what they meant
When they said REPENT REPENT
I wonder what they meant

You don't know me from the wind
you never will, you never did
I'm the little jew
who wrote the Bible
I've seen the nations rise and fall
I've heard their stories, heard them all
but love's the only engine of survival
Your servant here, he has been told
to say it clear, to say it cold:
It's over, it ain't going
any further
And now the wheels of heaven stop
you feel the devil's riding crop
Get ready for the future:
it is murder

Things are going to slide ...

There'll be the breaking of the ancient
western code
Your private life will suddenly explode
There'll be phantoms
There'll be fires on the road
and the white man dancing
You'll see a woman
hanging upside down
her features covered by her fallen gown
and all the lousy little poets
coming round
tryin' to sound like Charlie Manson
and the white man dancin'

Give me back the Berlin wall
Give me Stalin and St Paul
Give me Christ
or give me Hiroshima
Destroy another fetus now
We don't like children anyhow
I've seen the future, baby:
it is murder

Things are going to slide ...

When they said REPENT REPENT ...

13. Powerful lyrics!
"Analysts warn that current US plans will also provoke a Chinese reaction. History and the logic of deterrence "remind us that missile defense systems are potent drivers of offensive nuclear planning," and the Bush initiative will again raise the threat to Americans and to the world."

We are living in dangerous times, sigh!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where have all the flowers gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the flowers gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the flowers gone?
Girls have picked them every one
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Where have all the young girls gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the young girls gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the young girls gone?
Taken husbands every one
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Where have all the young men gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the young men gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the young men gone?
Gone for soldiers every one
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Where have all the soldiers gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the soldiers gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the soldiers gone?
Gone to graveyards every one
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Where have all the graveyards gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the graveyards gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the graveyards gone?
Covered with flowers every one
When will we ever learn?
When will we ever learn?

15. Always worth listening to Chomsky
even if I don't agree with him in all details. An incredibly moral man of great insight. I have learned much from him as well.

Cheers to Chomsky!

16. Chomsky is brilliant
I really admire him and was pleased to read some articles and interviews where he supported Kerry (hesitantly, but hey it's something).
