Marilyn Manson a "no-vote"
I've never been a particular fan of Marilyn Manson's music, but I've heard a lot about him being pretty well-informed, so when I saw him on Last Call with Carson Daly last night, I thought I'd give him a shot (even though that's way past my bedtime :)) In the interview, Carson asked Manson who he was going to vote for. What did Marilyn say? He didn't like either candidate, and voting third party just dilutes the whole thing, so he was probably not going to vote.

Manson's casual blase is both surprising and outrageous to me. Most of his fans are in the 18-24 demographic, and at least some of them are going to follow his example and not vote. If Bush gets re-elected, and those kids get shipped off to Iraq, Iran, Syria, or wherever, their blood is at least partially on Manson's hands.

How can somebody supposedly so "well-informed," somebody who claims the purpose of art is to change society, not do everything in his power to prevent four more years of Dumbya's neo-fascist agenda? I'm not saying he has to come out and endorse Kerry (though I'd love to see that), but he definitely should not set an example of apathy at a time like this, when the lives of most of the members of his fan base are quite literally on the line.

1. Didn't he support Bush in 2000?
If so, it's a partial victory anytime a 2000 Bush voter either stays home or votes third party.

3. He is a Republican - he is clear about that in Bowling for Columebine..
He did support Bush in 2000 so yes, a no vote vs a Bush vote is good for Kerry.

4. I don't know
It seems odd that he would though, seeing as he claims to be all satanist and B*sh's "favorite philosopher is Jesus Christ" (gag me).

Then again, some are saying B*sh is the Antichrist...

2. Lieberman denounced him as a murderer...
and most Dem's stood by and cheered.

I guess it would be hard to be singled out for a
political smear campaign and then embrace the
people who did it.

7. He doesn't have to embrace them
Edited on Sun Sep-19-04 01:28 AM by antigone382
But I don't really think many repukes love Manson either. In fact, I think if it was up to most of Bush's fundie buddies, much worse things would happen to Manson than being called a murderer.

It really surprises me that he's a repuke. I knew he was in Bowling for Columbine, but I didn't know what he said. It just seems very anathema to what he supposedly stands for.

Either way, if he gave a damn about his fans he wouldn't stand there and say not to vote.

On edit: Oh, and if he is a republican who supported b*sh, he IS a murderer.

11. I think he was a...
fool to support Bush in 2000.

But voting for Lieberman after what he had done to him
would have taken a fool also.

I don't see any evidence he is a Bush supporter today.

Maybe he is. Maybe he isn't.

I don't know.

All I do know is if he said don't vote for Bush he
is halfway there.

The more people that take his advice the better.

8. Doesn't surprise me really
Hey doesn't want President Bush because he knows the FCC will crack down on his ass if 4 more years of Bush were to come along. He doesn't want Kerry because It would then be a Utopian Nation, and Manson would have nothing to write about...hahah I crack myself up

9. We Still Have Tool/APC, Nine Inch Nails, and Ministry
Edited on Sun Sep-19-04 01:11 AM by InfoMinister
Plenty of Industrial rockers out there supporting Kerry. Ministry just released their latest Bush bashing album, Trent Reznor is helping out Zack De La Rocha on his latest and released a song for the Fahrenheit 9/11 album, Tool is on Punk Voter's site as a supporter and the sideproject A Perfect Circle just released a music video. We're currently having a conversation about some Kerry supporting rockers on the John Kerry forum if you want to take a look.

10. I always thought Marilyn Manson was a republican. Like Alice Cooper.
It is the obsession with death, gore, and hatred in her? his? lyrics, along with the somewhat satanic imagery that made me think this I guess.
